Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked - Part 1) is a conceptual album which continues the storyline of the famous Iced Earth's 1998 release "Something Wicked This Way Comes". This is also the first part of a double album (the sequel will probably be out in 2008) and this is of course the second album with the singer Tim Owens. Actually I was disappointed by the last two Iced Earth's albums ("Horror Show" and "The Glorious Burden") and if I was expecting something good with the two new "Something Wicked" I have to confess that I was not so confident too? By luck, my "bad" feeling was wrong and all the fans of Iced Earth will probably be happy to hear that Jon Schaffer is back in business so be prepared for a big kick in your ass!

Way too long for its own good, and the sluggish delivery doesn't really help, but there are some standout moments to take away from this 19-track release. "Ten Thousand Strong" feels a lot more precise in its musicianship and the aggressive pick-up of "The Domino Decree" and "Framing Armageddon" is well-needed. More songs like "The Clouding" and less songs like "Setain Massacre" and Framing Armageddon Part 1 would have fared a lot better in my opinion.

Too long, songwriting sounds taken for granted for most of it, Tim sounds like a mercenary on vocals on this; I think he did better on previous one. Many of these songs aren't good enough for re-listens. Ten Thousand Strong as the only strong song makes the others sound half-baked. The rating must go low .

This record is overdone, there's too many songs, there's too many riffs that goes nowhere and the way the story is told is too over-the-top.. it's not a bad record though. There's enough cool stuff here to keep me intrested and Tim Owens sings great. The first half is strongest (tracks 1-8) and then it also ends strong (tracks 17-18).
