Friend: Hey man there's a band on MTV right now, it sounds very good check it
Herzebeth: uhm?they look like good charlotte or something
Friend: No dude, check the song, man it sounds so like At The Gates
Herzebeth: well no it doesn't, but actually that song is not THAT bad?

Well that's what happened two weeks ago when my friend appeared in my front door with a "New" band called The Black Dahlia Murder, apparently they had this sound ala "Slaughter Of The Soul", believe me this band is far from that album, and is far from good or groundbreaking, This band is just another failed attempt to make "Revolutionary" music with Metalcore riffs, Growl vocals mixed with High-pitched ones, hideous bass playing, and well?amazing Drums.

It's not a bad debut in my opinion, but the vocals put me off listening to this album again-they really are bad. However, the choppy guitar work and neck-snapping drum rhythm more than make up for it.

Yeah definitely an over-hated album this. Don't mind the vocals myself, the dual thing is nice the it's sufficiently buried under the music not to be too annoying. Generally a pretty good and aggressive At the Gates worship album with some nice melody here and there.

At the Gates worship...

Which isn't saying much if you don't enjoy anything they released.

Yah pretty much. It's like AtG but a bit heavier. That's it.

A product of its time. The comparison to At the Gates isn't unwarranted, but these guys were a bit grittier, more vicious, and more death metal than their peers at the time (think Shadows Fall, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, etc.) I probably wouldn't spin it in its entirety right now, but there are definitely a few stand-out songs.

Never found groundbreaking. As been said many times, The Black was nothing less than a big fat AtG clone.
