seriously, have you listened to the albums of 1971 of the bands I've mentioned above?

Pink Floyd did Meddle which is one of their best works; the albums deserves attention just for the epic Echoes.
Yes did Fragile which again is a solid album, one of the best progressive rock albums like... ever!
Genesis welcomed guitarist Steve Hackett and drummer Phil Collins and released an amazing album - Nursery Cryme; songs like The Music Box, Fountain of Salmacis, Seven Stones, The Return of the Giant Hogweed are some of the best songs in the catalogue.
King Crimson released Islands, a very good album, again different than their previous works, a successful musical experiment to say the least.
UFO experimented with space rock/prog on their second album, a huge step forward from their debut album; the band was still looking for their sound, their 1971 album - Flying was an interesting experiment.

I think you forgot about Alice Cooper. "Killer" and "Love It To Death" are amazing crazy albums.

I agree, I wanted to mention Alice Cooper as well, good thing you did.

Thin Lizzy's debut album came in 1971 and it's a nice album as well.

it's not about albums being metal that this list is about, but about good albums of that year, and yes, that Rolling Stones album you've just mentioned is one of them.

Well, JohnDoe has already mentioned most of my favourites - Meddle, Fragile, Nursery Cryme, Islands. And Sticky Fingers is probably the Rolling Stones' best album.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer came out with both Tarkus and Pictures at an Exhibition.

Van der Graaf Generator released the monumental Pawn Hearts.

Man you people are so misled! Leonard Cohen's Songs of Love and Hate, and Joni Mitchell's Blue. Both the best albums by some of the best singer-songwriters of all time. Then there's Sandy Denny's The North Star Grassman and the Ravens, and awesome piece of folk rock. And Popol Vuh's In den Gärten Pharaos, I guess.

If we're talking about metal or harder forms of rock, I guess Master of Reality gets my vote.

I forgot about Caravan, VDGG (but then again I did not want to annoy people with more prog ), Gentle Giant, Birth Control, Procol Harum, all did great in 1971.
Nice to see Wishbone Ash mentioned here.

Eh, it's a discussion forum. When you make a list, you basically start a new thread. The whole point is to compare opinions and share suggestions.

I guess the discussion quickly turned to people mentioning their favourites from 1971 instead of commenting on the list, and there are plenty of great albums on it: Master of Reality, Led Zeppelin IV, Fireball, Aqualung...

Who's Next by The Who was also released in 1971.
