20.11.2013 - 20:44 Written by Unhealer on 19.11.2013 at 20:37 Completely agree. The first single they released wasn't bad but the overall full release is definitely better. One of the most interesting albuns I heard in 2013, mixing atmospheric sludge and industrial in an experimental way. And it's great that they were able to fit a "apocalyptic Johnny Cash song in there contributing to the vibe of the album:

Lithotome's debut is really good, Aseity the debut of his other project Esoterica is also pretty nice. Wolvserpent's sophomore album Perigea Antahkarana is quite enjoyable to say the least. Drone/Ambient/Black

Gardenia, some rather heavy psych/prog from Argentina. They made quite an impression in the national underground with this release.

David Maxim Micic Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t1WX9WXQZg Well, this came out of nowhere for me. Jazz/Metal/Post/Classical/Prog/Funk/Whatever the fuck else it feels like being. It reminds me a bit of a more technically proficient Maudlin of the Well merged with Devin Townsend with moments of Animals as Leaders. Really great listen if you're looking for something a bit different.

Haven't been here in a bit, but these two bands caught my attention recently: שְׁאוֹל (She-ol) - Sepulchral Ruins Below the Temple - Old school hellish sounding DM from the UK. Reminds me of the first Incantation album. Vastum - Patricidal Lust - Doomy Death Metal from San Francisco, it has two members from crust/DM band Acephalix, which has a pretty decent album called Deathless Master, the song Bastard Self off of it amazing. Enough about Acephalix, here is Vastum: EDIT: Vastum is scheduled for release on Dec. 13

Account deleted Written by Sunioj on 03.12.2013 at 17:34 Nice! Bandcamp tracks sound great. Always nice to hear more decent UK death metal. God knows we could do with more. [EDIT] In a bizarre twist this accidentally led me to another UK death metal band also called Sheol, who also have a demo out this year with the name MMXIII in the name, AND they sound pretty similar.

03.12.2013 - 21:03 Written by [user id=4365] on 03.12.2013 at 19:22 Yeah, I tried to look up Sheol on metal-archives and I got that band as well. Other Sheol doesn't sound too shabby. I think both Sheol's should duel to the death for their name, though one band has more members it seems. Might be an unbalanced fight Pretty weird that both bands have a promo/demo with MMXIII in it.

And now for something completely different. Well, not really, it's modern melodeath, but compared to the usual recommendations here it's different. As I said, it's modern melodeath. That, combined with the album art and tracklisting, should tell you a lot already. Fast throughout? Uber-polished? Kinda thrashy in parts? Guitars everywhere? Raspy screamy vocals? Cleans in some of the choruses? A couple of breakdown moments? Yep, you guessed it, this album has all of that. Yet somehow, in spite of how bog standard and cookie cutter that sounds, it kept my attention from start to finish, kept me entertained and never really made me want to turn it off. So I figured it might be worth suggesting here, just to see whether I really am the only one who sees potential in this. Also, it's Japanese.

Don't think these have been catalogued yet. Dirty Black Metal from Voidcraeft. and Progressive Black Metal that isn't half bad either.

I recently was looking for bands in the vein of Baroness and harsher Intronaut and I came across Pyres' debut album "Year of Sleep". It didn't take more than one song to win me over. I've listened the album about a dozen times in a single week and still gets better with each listen. This is a genuine sludge-release with a crushing yet catchy and uplifting sound which easily holds its own waters against the aforementioned bands (though it's less experimental). Also, they're streaming the whole album on Decibel: http://www.decibelmagazine.com/featured/streaming-pyres-year-of-sleep/ Oh man, I love the opener...

27.12.2013 - 21:05 Written by Saiyanity on 27.12.2013 at 20:16 Your cousin plays in Still Remains?! Nice . Used to jam Of Love And Lunacy a lot back then, was surprised they dropped this album since they were inactive for so long, and this might be their best album yet, though I've only given glancing listens. Plus this track features Dan from Zao which is always a nice thing.

We're in 2014 now? Well too bad, here is a late addition: Dominic "Forest" Lapointe and 2 guys from Unhuman did an instrumental album "à la" Blotted Science. And it makes for an interesting listen. http://teramobil.bandcamp.com/
