Let me tell you the tale of the Northern Prince of Evil, chosen for a crusade to tear down the very heavens. Listen and cower before the story of Lord Belial.

A fantastic underrated gem that stands up to some of the best in Black Metal.

I prefer this to anything from Immortal, Darkthrone, Mayhem or Behemoth.

The last couple bars of the title track are so powerful. A great album start to finish, albeit just a bit corny IMO. I hate the "evil" laughter, but a very small gripe in an otherwise great meloblack album. An obvious inspiration for Frozen Shadows.

One of the best black metal albums! The style reminds me of a mix between Storm of the Light's Bane and Nocturnal Silence. All of the songs are great - very evil and atmospheric. Charging riffs, demonic vocals, and relentless drums lead you on a dark crusade from wintry plains, through Hell, and to the Gates of Heaven. An evil masterpiece!

First time I've managed listened to this album in full, and it's very impressive. Although this band is one of the lesser known in the 90's Swedish black metal scene, they are still just as important, and this album certainly puts them up there with the best of them. The vocals are truly powerful, and the shrieking really helps create such an eerie and sinister atmosphere, and the riffs are so melodic and yet also hypnotic.

As a whole the album is brilliant eventhough there are a few tracks weaker than others, the one's that stand out most for me are "Unholy Spell of Lilith", "Lamia", "Black Winter Blood-bath", and the epic closer "Realm of a Thousand Burning Souls".

Revisiting this. Yep, still one of the best black metal albums of history. Changed my vote from 9 to 10.

For me, this record gets better after the second track.
The first two tracks are below average for me, after which tracks 3 through 6 are solid and very dynamic. The last two tracks are the best.
So on average this is a solid 8 to 8.5
