A Nice Guy
I recommend Unanimated - Ancient God Of Evil, it's melodic black metal, and sounds very similar too [band]Dissection[b/band] and Necrophobic.

Well, I listened this Sinira album, only one time, well, it's quite good, but lacks originality, many ideas directly from Dissection "Storm..", even outro. So it's quite good Dissection worship, but still worship, not something purely creative. I heard similar band before Thulcandra. Still, I think that Dawn "Slaughtersun" has more their own personality, so I would rate it higher. I'll check also Lord Belial, maybe tomorrow.

I found Sinira impressive that it's just one guy playing all the instruments. While it has inspiration from Dissection, I think it's more unique than Thulcandra
Yeah, check out Enter the Moonlight Gate if you haven't already... I always get the first couple of lyrics stuck in my head: "I'm bewitched by the pale silver moooon in the black and ancient skyyyy!"
I'll check out Dawn. Vinterland is also similar and is on my to-do list

I've changed my ratings and the ordering of the albums. Now I've given 10s only to my "elite", ultimate favorites. 9s are for albums that are among the best ever. 8s are for albums that I really enjoy, even though they have some flaws. 7s are good/decent.

Yeah, check out Enter the Moonlight Gate if you haven't already...

Well, I listened it, but only once. It creates some kind of landsape in my mind I would say.. So here is the difference, it's very atmospheric. Musically it's good, quite original, at last I don't remember band sounding like that. Well, lyrics could be better, they are black metal clichés, in that aspect I would prefer something different. (but perhaps in that aspect, I would complain about most BM bands)

I love listening to older rock songs. I think that the music of the 70s and 80s will never be forgotten because it's the best. Music bands like the Doors are my favorite, and I adore their songs.
Still, I like exploring new music too. There are a few gems from time to time. I am not sure what would be the best album of 2021 for me because nothing has caught my attention yet. I hope I find something interesting to listen to.
Btw, what streaming services do you guys use? I use the show4me app, and I love it because there are many unknown artists I can explore. It's also free, which is a big plus.

To discover new bands I usually use YouTube and Bandcamp. I'm not familiar with the show4me app. Maybe I'll check that out

With now 101 albums in my all-time favorites list, I decided to gather some statistics about my list.

The years with the most albums are 1990 (8 favorites), 1995 (6 favorites), 1993 (6 favorites), 1986 (5 favorites), 1984 (5 favorites), and 1989 (5 favorites).
The albums here range from 1971 to 2021. While there are gaps in the 70s and early 2000s, there is a continuous run from 1982 to 2001, which is not surprising since the 80s and 90s are deemed by most metalheads as the "golden years". These are my album counts for the 80s and 90s:
1982: 1
1983: 4
1984: 5
1985: 3
1986: 5

Norway: 3
Finland: 3

The Netherlands: 3
Australia:2
Brazil: 2
Canada: 2
Greece: 1
Portugal: 1
Belgium:1

I also tried to count how many albums for each subgenre there are, but it was hard to exactly label some albums that are a mix of genres (for example there are several black/death metal albums). Overall, though, I think the most albums belong to death and thrash metal.

(I'm constantly rearranging my list and adding new favorites all the time. So, these statistics are subject to change. This is just a snapshot in time of my list right now.)

I hope some of you enjoyed this insight into my favorites of metal! What are your thoughts on the progress of my metal journey?

Love your stats, I think they kind of overlap with what I had realized in my sats list with what years are the ones with the most amount of top 200 albums and whatnot. And there are some great albums in your list as well, gg man.

Greetings, my fellow metalheads! With my 999th post here on Metal Storm, I'm proud to announce My Top 100 Favorite Metal Albums of All Time!

Over the last couple of months as I've been constantly discovering new albums, my list here had grown to almost 140. Instead of adding every album that I enjoyed, I've now decided to limit myself here to the "elite" ones - 100 albums that I truly enjoy and that represent why I love this music so much!

The top 50 are pretty much set in stone and I think the order reflects my taste pretty accurately. The bottom 50 are somewhat in order. I pretty much like all of the bottom 50 equally well. (Remember that this is just a personal list: I don't claim that these are the best albums - these are just my favorites )

While I haven't yet added descriptions to all albums, I have included the year of release, country of origin, and subgenre for each album.
There are some interesting insights I've gathered about my tastes. For example, although I've known for some time already that the subgenre that I enjoy the most is death metal (comprising 28 out of the 100 albums), I was pleasantly surprised to find black metal ahead of thrash (each 20 vs 19 out of 100).

Black metal was the subgenre I was having the most difficulty getting into. The Swedish melodic style and Summoning's grand atmospheres helped me ease my way into the genre until I learned to appreciate the Norwegian bands. Even the Greek black metal scene has intrigued me!

Some of you might also notice that my appreciation for Slayer has improved a lot. 4 out of their first 5 albums grace this list of metal gems. I guess I would call myself a fan

The statistics compared to my last post in January have changed a bit. 1990, although personally regarded as metal's best year, surprisingly is surpassed by 1995 and tied with 1996 now (1995's 8 vs 7 releases for both 1996 and 1990). 1984 stands out with 5 releases, while most of the 80s and early 90s have about 4 albums per year.

The ranking of the countries remains relatively the same: USA, Sweden, and UK lead the pack, while Norway has gained some appearances. The full statistics are as follows:

Interesting little statistic:
29 of my top 100 albums are the debut albums of bands! I guess that goes to show that I'm a fan of the "old but gold"

This list probably needs an update

Indeed! Hence the June 2022 disclaimer! I've been building up a list, using nonZero's method of ranking based on average score of song ratings. I'm also writing on my next anniversary write up that'll come out this coming June. What do you think, should I publish a new top 100 list before or after the June article?
