Hydrogyn is a newcomer from USA. This band plays a nice melodic Hard Rock but its particularity comes from the singer, a "nice" and "beautiful" girl, Julie. Just check the cover of the CD and you'll see that someone understood that it was probably good to take some sexy pictures of the girl and put them everywhere on the cover and booklet of the first album of the band to sell a lot of CDs. It's maybe attractive for someone, but sadly, I think that it will just give a bad image for the band, and that's stupid because they're not bad and Julie is a good and real singer actually...

If you use to listen to old school Hard FM during the 90's I'm sure that you'll like this release. Actually, this is just a modern version of this music with a female singer. And she is a good singer actually, with a charming beautiful clean voice which fits perfectly to the melodic Hard Rock of the band. If you'll be able to find ballads and mid tempo (and melancholic) songs, you'll be able to find songs a bit more heavy like "Vesper's Song" or "I've Been Waiting" (+ a cover of "Back In Black") even if in general it's really soft. It's good Hard Rock really, but it suffers a bit of its lack of originality.

Actually, the only problem of "Bombshell" is that is a bit classic, not really new and original. It's good Hard Rock, no problem but you can find this kind of music easily too… It's a bit too much generic and can be boring at the end since that it doesn't give a lot of new feelings to the listener. But at least, the quality is here and that's already a good start right?

Despite the really average "Bimbo Metal" image that the band tries to give through their singer, "Bombshell" is a cool album of Hard Rock. Not really original and new on a side but with some good songs and a good singer. Let's hope that they will be able to do "music" first on their next album, because there is a lot of potential in this combo. If you like cool melodic Hard Rock and female singer, you can go for this one...

Haha!

I'm having trouble imagining this kind of hard rock performed with a female singer, though. Is her voice nasty enough to pull it off and carry enough attitude?

Hey thanks for reviewing this CD - yeah, it's not original, but Julie's got a great bluesy hard rock style voice. The track "Look Away SP" is killer ... in a classic sorta way of course!
