Epic Funeral Doom
Jan 14, 2014
Returning in full force with the band's distinct signature, A Etilla is a massive journey through a single slab of sorrowful doom landscapes. Builds up great in its pacing, and strikes an excellent balance between dark melodies and an entrancing ambient touch.

Ominous?! That's one word I would never use to describe Ea, or dark. Far too warm and floaty for that

Oh God not another generic fluffy warm a dime a dozen funeral doom album by Ea.

Like JOOE says ominous is the last word I'd associate with Ea. As would dark be. This is about as funeral doom light as Shape Of Despair, I'd even dare say this is lighter stuff than Shape Of Despair.

A bit of a step behind Au Ellai, but still offers exactly what you'd expect from an Ea release. Slow and sorrowful while easy to digest.

Listened to it today at work. I'll give it a second spin, but there was certainly nothing wrong with the album. It's very light, but it was exactly what I expected it to be.

Slow and sorrowful

What would thus be "dark" and "ominous" by my interpretation. Apparently those labels rustled some panties, however

But slow and sorrowful are not synonyms of dark and ominous

Never said they were, but it's that slow and sorrowful pacing of the music that, to my ears, creates a dark and ominous atmosphere. I know we can compare Ea to Evoken, Tyranny, Wormphlegm, etc. and say that in contrast they sound like wandering through a field of dandelions, but taking this release as itself, that's what I hear.

Not bad, but I'm not that intrigued by this album. I might not even give this more spins.

Your friend Pim from Officium Triste gave it a 85/100 on Lords of Metal though.
