8.5 		Blackened doom has always been my favorite fusion of any two metal subgenres. Why, you ask? It's quite simple really: combine the two subgenres that are typically the most gloomy and melancholic in the entire metal spectrum, and you're in for one hell of a result. This year, the Englishmen of Bast are hitting the scene full force with Spectres, and they're ready to show us how it's done.

This is GOOD. Strong debut I'd say.

Doom is not a genre that often grips me. But these guys just GET it. The riffs are solid, the vocals are tantalizing, and above all else; these guys know how to write a lengthy composition. Not content with a simple "let's drone out the same chords for 10 minutes," Bast delivers a level of progression and surprising changes in tone, pace, and texture that is pretty masterful for a debut. There is even some Fugazi in the excellent closing track. Kudos to you, and a follow as well.
