Are you kidding me?) They have finally decided to release an album? I am not expecting anything from this band. Only another dull, boring and quite primitive album like all previous before.

I think much of their discography is very underrated. The Cainian Chronicles, Night Visit and especially Proxima Centauri (probably their best work) are great meloblack albums with a tinge of gothic metal. The only thing wrong with this band is that it always tried to overdo everything. They pointlessly enlarge the length of the albums with filler or worse tracks. This is the case with The Halls of Eternity (aside from the fact that Deadly Kristine ruined much of the material with her vocal performance). The band would've made their works more appreciated if they reduced the length around a 40-50 min one, thus diminishing the filler extra material, cut out long and pointless interludes and focus on writing cohesive, catchy riffs. Sometimes it is good to be overambitious, but in the case of Ancient, most of the time it went bad.

Maybe it depends upon taste. As the matter of fact Proxima Centauri was the first black metal album I have listened to. And I found it remarkable. But after having got acquainted with such bands as Marduk, Darkthrone and etc, the Ancient albums turned to be really boring. I am not trying to compare these guys with others. But still I think that weak albums are connected with some of band members. And by the way you are right. The vocal of Deadly Kristine was awful. And Grom was not a great drummer too.
