We'll get along just fine then

Pretty much spot on with your description. The first listen was a bit rough, but the second and third time around it's awesome Sounds like I need to check out this Project RnL...

Project RnL aren't exactly a full-fledged band as much as a project that just puts out a song every now and then. But they've got a very 'distinct' take on prog that you can only really associate with them, with a cappella style vocals, a really weird understanding of time-shifts, and they just seem to have a lot of fun. They're a bit unusual, and I could see them being hard to get into in all honesty, but I just like their style a good amount. It's mostly just fun.

Here's probably my favourite track from them. I'd recommend watching it all the way through before making judgements though:

(I fucking love live-in-studio stuff in general)

Wow...I'm letting everyone on MS know you've withheld this gem of a band from us for so long. Expect lashes. I'll let Nile do the talking.

I just assumed they were decently well known.

This album is one of the most fascinating-constructed albums I've heard in a long time.
It's definitely something fresh, and with a little fine-tuning, this band just might be the big prog metal trademark Dream Theater and Haken made for themselves. Loving it!

I listened to a few of songs but it did not appeal to me much, they're trying too hard to sound original (kudos for that anyway), but the sound seems all over the place, taking influences from too many places, did not sound cohesive to me. Maybe I lacked the focus or patience for it, I dunno

I might just give it another chance.

I love how open-minded your comment was. Just had to say that.

dunno how open-minded I am , I can't get into this album, could not even bring myself finishing listening to it all.

Open-mindedness isn't necessarily about being able to enjoy everything (that's impossible), but rather understanding why and how someone may like/dislike something you dislike/like. It's basically just being comprehensive of subjectivity.

Refreshing prog even if not exceptionally original. Haken reference are partially justified. I would also add Leprous. Native Construct have a good degree of theatricality and extremity to their sound, and their don't overdo either. So overall good. If more songs were like "Mute," "Your Familiar Face," and "Come Hell or High Water," I would rate higher than a 7. But let's, maybe it will grow more on me.

Thanks for sharing, Ivor.

This album is really tasty. It took me a little while to get into it when I first started listening to it, but man oh man is this well executed. The vocals are decent and not too cheesy, even on ballads like Your Familiar Face. The instrumental performances, on the other hand, are tight (exemplified by Chromatic Aberration). A very promising album, and a band with an incredible amount of potential.

This album took me a few spins to fully appreciate too but I've had it on heavy rotation since. It's got that nice balance of being theatrical without being cheesy & varied without becoming incohesive. Quite possibly my prog album of the year.

Discovered these guys last week, opening on the BTBAM/Enslaved/Intronaut tour. They play a pretty good show for their first tour. Cool guys when we met them after as well.
In any case, came home and checked out the album and I think it's a pretty good debut. I'm very interested to see what's to come out of these guys going forward.

Really fun album; creative, odd, and technically impressive. Also saw them on the tour when I went to go to see Enslaved, and was impressed.

I am so in love with this album. I think this is one of my top Concept albums right up there with Still Life.

I get goose bumps at 7:18 of the song Passage every time. My question is if anyone knows of any bands that have a similar style. I like the heavy string section on top of metal guitar and drums. Here is a youtube link of the section I am talking about:

You seriously need to listen to this as a whole. Each song stands alone in my opinion as a great song but as a whole this album is amazing. Here is the thing, imagine if you got 7 new movies you have never seen before and then you only watched the last 20 minutes of each one you would be like, "OMG, those movies sucked"

Give the album a listen. Don't do anything, sit in a comfortable chair, turn off your phone and just press play.

This album was the best musical discovery of the year 2015 for me. Fresh and high quality progressive metal that reminds me a bit of Vangough, but has some moments of craziness almost on the level of Unexpect. I can hardly believe this is the debut album of Native Construct.
Favourite tracks: Mute, Your Familiar Face, Chromatic Aberration.

It's a shame these guys have given up on the Native Construct project. Ah well, at least they went out with a bang. Dirge and Native Construct disbanding really messed me up last week.

Sad news about the "indefinite hiatus" indeed. I was eagerly anticipating a follow-up to their fantastic debut. Oh well...

Thought I'd check this album out after seeing this meme. Pretty good, not as strong as a lot of other Prog albums released in the 2010's, but worth checking out. The comparisons with Haken are valid.
