Abducted? I don't think I heard that before, though the use of mental patients is supposedly true. Has been a long time since I listened to this band so couldn't even say if it was any good, but I suspect not.

As far as I know the driving force behind Stallagh worked/works in a mental institution and all those stories about them being patients themselves and abductions are pure marketing plots.

I believe this to me half truth half lie. I've read a couple of interviews in the past (specially since the day I found and bought this very album in a second-hand store) and they seem to have contacts and permissions to get in contact with the patients... And that's where the lie starts because the interviews I've read give a far more clean and legal tone to all this so I doubt these guys actually abducted anyone and actually got full ermitions. The band was all "hey, we need these guys for our creepy project and these guys actually enjoy it and find it therapeutic to yell out loud. Win-win"

May I interest you both with the continuation of their project, titled Gulaggh? If my info is correct, Stalaggh is more or less a finished project and they decided to create a new one. (See how Stalag was german while Gulag was soviet a labor camp). In anycase. Gulaggh has a different approach to noise. Besides being...well.... noisy (duh), they use a bunch of classical instruments. Violins, chello that kind of shit and get this, the patients are from young psychiatry wards, like... childrens and teenagers screaming their hearts out. It's pretty interesting at the very least and the classical vibe does give it a layer that is much appreciated.

Gulaggh - Vorkuta (yup, Crucial Blast took them under their wings)

It doesn't matter. Music is total shit. Definitely one of the worst things I have ever heard.

The relative subtlety actually works quite well for them and is quite enjoyable. I like the free-form jazz feel of it. The second half I'm not entirely sure about =P

Huh, I was actually positively surprised. I knew this project for so many years and after so much time getting into other kinds of fucked up stuff I guess this didn't bother me so much as the first time. I was surprised at hearing riffs and tempo changes every now and then. It does achieve a sense of disturbance every nowand then so I guess what I'm trying to say is that... Yeah, kind of dig it. I can still imagine a ton of other stuff better than this though... Even their following project Gulaggh is much better and more balanced.
