It is neither of them, or maybe a combination of both.
Definitely it is their most industrial sounding record, with odd melodies here and there. It does not have the subtlety of their debut, as there are less slowly developing sections. At times it sounds a bit bludgeony, not on the same level of primitive man of course.
It is definitely better than their 2nd album, and better than what I expected. Still not sure if I like it more than their debut, but one can say that this new record is more complete and diverse, and less one dimensional in a sense. A very accomplished record on my ears.

Their best yet.

Your response comes at a funny time, it almost feels like I haven't heard it and you're telling me what to look forward to. I've already had this for promo review for 3 weeks myself, so I have some idea now of what's going on here (that's not condescending by the way, just noting the irony)

I'd agree with you, I feel like this is essentially some sort of middle ground between The Tunnels and The Purging (more of the former though, which is what I was hoping for). A few more spins could make this my favorite from the band as well

I'd say their debut beats it, but only slightly. This is such a good album

Excellent album, the moment when Vindsval sings in French during the last song is just sick.

Edit : my bad, Vindsval is singing in the last song apparently, not MkM.

Great album but for me The Tunnels is still clearly their best.

First album I've heard from them, but I fucking love it.

Ok, fourth playthrough right now before my review comes, and yes, Mahdi's comment is seconded. This is indeed their best yet. What a fucking maelstrom

Definitely my favorite album of the year so far. Every little aspect in the music melds together so fucking perfectly

I don't know why, but I really don't like this record compared to what the band put out before. Probably the vocals.

Fire Dances is a great track. Blut Aus Nord's touch is awesome.

I think this is the best TT album, better than the debut.

Fun fact: the voices that appear around 9 minute mark on Fire Dances are prayers spoken in Croatian language.

Damn son, Fire Dances is unreal. The album goes from catchy af industrial to nightmarish dissonance. Trippy album for sure. Need more than one listening to fully digest while the previous two felt more immediate.

"Fire Dances" is absolutely incredible and sounds like black metal-infused Killing Joke. Probably not a coincidence given the title of the track is also the title of a Killing Joke album.
