Finland surpasses every other country on earth in producing folk metal, now to such a fantastic extent that the Finns are taking over for other countries that don't produce enough folk metal bands of their own. For those of you unfamiliar with Whispered, this quartet deals in electrifying extreme power metal merged with traditional Japanese elements, like a colder, more calculated version of Chthonic,* or a Japanophile Winter-san.

This was a nice surprise, first time i've tried this band. Sounds a bit like Wintersun but with more of an oriental/Japanese influence. Definitely one of the more interesting releases to come from 2016.

Same here, usually not my cup of tea genre wise but this is a good album.

This is their best work yet! Refreshing to hear some japanese influences in a metal band for once.

This is everything I wanted Shogunate to be: The sound of their debut but evolved and refined.

Definitely their best yet! Can't wait for more!

Agreed! Personally, think Japanese Folk Metal could be a flourishing subgenre if more bands took up the sound.

Check out this song if you like japanese influences on metal, its more sympho metal but still kickass.

Checked it out and it's not bad at all
That's the cool thing about adding some cultural flavours into music, it makes it refreshing and just a little different. Metal easily tends to sound generic and by adding this it keeps it fresh.
Myrath for instance, band from Tunisia, check this out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLXqG_WKcFU

Sitting here listening to Whispered with the Drakengard/Nier series on my desk. This song is the most metal/atmospheric one in the series in my opinion, check it out and cheers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ7NIB-oib8
