Riverside - Moving Forward As A Trio
A few days ago, Riverside promised to make an official statement regarding their future and today came the announcement to lay many fans' fears to rest. The band will continue as a trio and guitarist Piotr Grudziński will not be replaced. Instead, session guitarists, "who are our friends, whom we know and like," will help out in the studio and on stage.
The news comes with a sense of trepidation as Riverside, who alone know the true magnitude of their loss, seem to fear losing fans' support, saying: "We know that for many of you the story of Riverside ends here, this year, and that Eye Of The Soundscape might be the last Riverside album you'll buy. We know that some of you can't imagine this band without the characteristic guitar of Piotr Grudziński and for you Riverside has ceased to exist. But our story is not over yet; with a flaw, with a scar, with a wealth of new experiences, we have decided to go on."
Along with the upcoming release of Eye Of The Soundscape on October 21st, and their official biography A Dream In High Definition in November, Riverside will return to the stage to honor Piotr's memory on the anniversary of his death in February 2017. Beyond that, work on a new album will begin, one that, considering the hurt it will be born out of, "will probably be a return to heavier and more intense sound."

Off topic: I was so close with submitting this one.  On topic: I think their decision is probably the best one for both them, as a group, and fans. Ultimately, it's a decision that's hard to take, because of the circumstance, but I'd love to hear what future sound will these lads produce, given their line up has changed dramatically.  I think Piotr would have thanked them for going on with Riverside.

I haven't been this emotionally invested in a band in years, if ever. I feel compelled to make the trip and see them live in February, despite my having gone off concerts in the last five years, and forgoing the chance to see them on their New Generation Tour in the UK.

Think Dimmu Borgir, they are still a 6 piece band but all you see on the promos are the 3 members that do all the songwriting and drive the Dimmu name. In Riverside's case, it seems to be just to honor the memory of Piotr, they don't want to feel they are replacing him. I don't think it's a good decision but well, I'm not going through this hard situation, they must have a lot going on their heads.

Ya its very tough. But it is good that they are putting the best foot forward with the tragedies behind them. Their last album was very emotive and engaging to listen. Hope they keep up the good form.

Surly its going to be hard for them but going on as a trio and moving on on the road they started is a honorable and great thing to do and i think Piotr Grudziński would be happy if he knew that this was his band mates decision I really hope to hear from them soon

A decision I respect. While nobody can replace Piotr, it would be a pity, if the band was laid to rest. I'm sure we'll listen to many great records from Riverside yet.
