Every two years, Shakra, the Hard Rock band from Switzerland, comes with a new album. I discovered them with "Rising" (2003) which was a really good and catchy album of Hard FM and even if I was a bit disappointed by the previous release "Fall" I always kept an eye on this combo. This year they release their new CD, "Infected", an album which quietly follows the road of the two previous albums.
When you'll listen to the new album, you'll quickly understand that Shakra is this kind of bands which never try to change its musical recipe. They have their own sound, they play "their" music and albums after albums they never try to change it. It works so they don't have to take any risks after all? But it's a bit tricky too since that it sounds a bit similar on all the albums. That's the case with "Infected" which is a good album of Hard FM but which clearly sounds like "Fall" and "Rising". I will never say that "Infected" is a bad album because as an example, a song like "Inferno" with its catchy hyper melodic chorus, with its great melody with its rhythmic which is never boring is a cool song and it's a real pleasure to listen to it but it's extremely classic and not really new too. If you like Shakra, don't worry you'll not be disappointed by the album and it will be the same if you like Hard Rock but if you want to discover something new then?
On the other hand the interpretation of the Swiss band is really classy. Marc Fox, as always is really impressive and no no really it's hard to blame the band for anything except the fact that they didn't write anything new on the album. The production is great, the cover, simple as hell on a side fits perfectly to the title of the album, Infected doesn't suffer of any big problems.
What can I add? "Infected" is a good album of Hard Rock and it's great to see that the band didn't lose anything in their musical skill. I just hope now that Shakra will be able to surprise us a bit. I don't ask to them to change their music but maybe that it could be nice to have something a bit different on their future releases. We will see if they are able to do it or not?
