I'm obsessed with Total Death lately... I would dare to say that it's by far my favourite Darkthrone album... well, I'm one of those who certainly prefer post-Transilvanian Hunger Darkthrone.

I picked up Paunzerfaust a couple of months ago and i dug it immediately could even surpass Transilvanian Hunger.

Part of the inspiration for The Cult Is Alive was Motorhead, perhaps that was not their direct influence for that album but in general they have been inspired by Motorhead - in which I saw an interview with some German talk show/radio guy at Fenriz' house. It took me a few listens to get into "The Cult.." but I do like it, I especially like Graveyard Slut, primarily because it is bad, but it's done in a way that it makes it a good song, Fenriz as a vocalist is well.. interesting.

I've heard some rumours that Fenriz made the vocals on Goatlord... Can somebody tell if this is true or not?

I would like that, Fenriz have awesome vocals. I hope that it is true @Scarrowed Muse - I think that you are right, I recognised some of the influence of similar bandsespecially in the first part of the album

yes, The Cult Is Alive is obviously Motorhead influenced, and also obviously Punk influenced... it's one of the "punkest" black metal albums I had ever heard.

Uh, this may sound dumb but, can any one tell me how do Darkthrone play live, if they do?? Panzerfaust is the best of the albums I have heard. TCIA was one hell of a good listen tho, It was so, well original, for Darkthrone at least.

yeah, they played a couple of gigs way back when, but i'd bet they haven't played in over a decade so the "they don't play live" statement is accurate enough.

I like the fact they don't play live, because their music should not be played live.... There are also some speculations that the band, which played on the Roots of Evilness bootleg is not Darkthrone, so it could be an immence fake. I'm not informed if there are any official confirmations. However, there was a video of Satyricon playing The Hordes of Nebulah with Nocturno Culto on the vocals and on the guitar/bass... I'm not sure about the last, because the quality was alful.

A brand new Darkthrone song, entitled 'Canadian Metal', is available for streaming here. This track comes off the new EP, named "NWOBHM" (New Wave Of Black Heavy Metal) and due on July 23 via Peaceville Records.

I love it. I"ll buy it for sure. The guitar solo had a cool sound to it. It's pretty rare to see bands progress in a positive direction.

Meh, to others they are good, but I don't really prefer them over others. Now ok, I do find a liking to Neptune Towers, Ytterst I Livet, and Transilvanian Hunger, but those are like the only ones I downloaded that I like. I would listen to more, but I have no cash and music download programs are being dumb nowadays.

http://www.mp3.com/artist/darkthrone/videos/?uv_id=ciY1ljv65b4IuDXZ&play_user_vid=true Here is a link to the upcoming DVD film by Nocturno. I am a bit disappointed but not surprised, as it was only the other night after flipping through Terrorizer magazine (which is where I found out that he had a film) I said to my wife, that I hoped it wasn't like Darkthrones first and only music video done with a hand held camera... and it looks like he used the same camera for this movie. Myself being orginally from Canada I find the song "Canadian Metal" to be amusing, but I am perplexed as to why they would write a song like that, because let's face it, metal in Canada isn't that great I am sad to say. Off the top of my head the only well known bands are Rush, Cryptopsy, Kittie (puke), and Strapping Young Lad, Canada produces mostly rock bands at best which aren't so great.. such as Nickelback, Avril Lavine(sp?), Bryan Adams, Bif Naked, and other junk. The best music I've heard come out of Canada is Quebecs "Nordicwinter", which IMO is a very good one man black metal band. I guess there is also Three Inches of Blood which seems to be gaining popularity.

The new song, despite the ridiculous title of 'Canadian Metal', was fucking cool! It reminded me simultaneously of Motörhead, Celtic Frost and Venom, but the solo was too melodious for any of those bands. I'm really enjoying their new direction, many people will say that it's too punky and that they're selling out and whatever (as usual!), but I think it's really awesome and energetic, with a badass attitude. As for Nocturno Culto's documentary, it's actually in one of my local CD stores right now, but it's also very expensive, so while I really want to see it, I don't know if it's worth that money.

Canadian Metal lol what a fuck? Anyway, song is awesome, I liked new style, guitars, drums, especially vocals an new production, not sure will everything stay like that, but I remember that before they releases The Cult Is Alive they released Too Old, Too Cold single, and they chaged sound only a little, so, we will have new totally weird and un expected Darkthrone album. Gods, and I remember that they are the band that released Transilvanian Hunger, Ablaze In The Northern Sky... What a difference, somehow I thought it is impossible to be coolest than that, but I suppose I was wrong, Canadian Metal!

Fenriz put the Canadian band Blasphemy on his best of black metal comp... granted as the intro piece. Voivod is another Canadian band that comes to mind, and their influence is seen on "Atomic Coming" off 'The Cult is Alive.' Nocturno Culto (or was it Fenriz? i forgot) give a nod to them following the release of the album after Piggy's passing.

04.07.2007 - 07:04 Written by BitterCOld on 03.07.2007 at 20:31 I think I read something about that actually. I saw Voivod in 2003 with Jason Newsted (sp?) on bass, they were touring with Ozzy, and I can recall the singer being a big goofball, I thought that they really sucked.
