Something has really gotten into the Amorphis boys in the past few years; while none of them have had an exclusivity with the band for their music, it is remarkable that within 3 years, half the band’s members have released debut albums for projects featuring rosters of guest vocalists.

Pretty cool album, bass is very prominent, tons of melody, different vocalists throughout. A lot of it brings you back to Amorphis' Elegy and even reminded me of The Karelian Isthmus with Koivusaari on vocals for track 2. Jon Aldara of Hamferd really stands out on A Dusk Of Vex. Great performances all around! Can't forget about the killer artwork, looks amazing!

This weekend have been amazing for me considering new music coming out. First Nyktophobia and now this. I first listened to Black Winter Day when I was 14 years old and been a huge Amorphis fan ever since, so listened to this is just a trip.
I love the choice of vocalists on the album, Tomi and Tomi are obvious choices for the sound but I also really like the performances of both Mikko and Jon which both fit perfectly on the album as well. Considering they both have or are performing in "Barren Earth" it totally makes sense, since they often lean into Amorphis territory as well.

But anyways, this album is a must listen for any fan of the earlier Amorphis stuff or the band in general

"Coast Of The Drowned Sailors" is probably the closest we'll ever get to a real continuation of Elegy. On first listens, this is possibly my favourite of the 'Amorphis spin-off' projects that are currently coming thick and fast; interesting that Olli-Pekka Laine was there through the extreme years of Amorphis, rejoined after their heaviest album in nearly 2 decades, and now has gone more consistently heavy than either of the guitarists did on their own solo projects, must have a general inclination towards more extreme prog sounds

Early Amorphis with a touch of 70s psychedelic rock, it's a marvelous album!

More than anything, this reminds me of Oppu's writing for Barren Earth. It captures a lot of the things I loved about Curse of the Red River and The Devil's Resolve even moreso than it does Elegy. And it's got a bit of the Kingston Wall vibe about it as well.

I miss BE and wish that more of Oppu's songs would make it onto Amorphis' albums. Maybe now that they will likely be moving on from Bogren with the next album?

This is more or less Amorphis' Tales..., but doesn't really excel at it emulating it. There's something quite forced about the whole thing... missing the spark so to speak. I'm not the best judge though because I'm not ultra fond of that album.

Yeah, I see what they're going for. But these attempts at reviving some early Amorphis vibes just make me want to go and listen to the original Tales From The Thousand Lakes and Elegy
