If I could post screenshots in here I would show you it's currently red. It's just went from 6.9 to 7 again and it's literally red. I've seen an orange 7 too. Maybe it depends on the votes if it's red or orange. Same with the 8.5 being green and orange. Why would I make this up? That would be a super strange thing to lie about haha. Reds do not start at 5. They should, but they don't. I've never seen any 6s anything but red.
It's definitely currently orange, not red; it shows an orange 7 on the album main page, but that's because it's rounded up from 6.95, the actual current average at 2 dp. I think orange goes from 6.99 down to 5. As for whether it should be, there's definitely a thread somewhere in which it's been discussed before, but I can't find it at present - I personally would be in favour of adjusting the colour grading, as presently red covers the entire 1-5 range, so making e.g orange for 4-6 and yellow for 6-8 would maybe add a bit of nuance and dissuade people from giving anything half-decent a 7+ score (I've also mentioned in my recent Dark Tranquillity review and elsewhere that the grading names currently offer a bit too little range to distinguish shades of 'goodness'), but I don't think there's ever been enough of a consensus to alter it
Is there anyway to share screenshots in here? Haha I've literally just asked 10 people(5 I'm currently in a room with) what colour it is, and ALL said red. On both this page, and the band page. Surely it has something to do with the device? Like, I just said, it's a weird thing to lie about, bro lol. I'm even willing to prove it. Hey, at least you agree with the 7- 8.49 being orange and not yellow ha. But 6.9 and lower is always red for me. Very strange people are saying red starts at 5 and lower.
I completely agree that the colours need a change up, bro. I definitely think it puts people off rating an album a 6 because the colour makes it look like it's bad. Personally I'd have 10-8.5 a gold like colour if possible. 8.4-7 = green. 6.9-5.5 = orange. 5.4 or lower = red. Obviously just my suggestion, not Bitching or demanding ha. Appreciate it the engagement, my friend.

This is 100% orange, so it depends whether your screen shows colours differently, or whether this might be an unexpected revelation of colorblindness.
"Hey, at least you agree with the 7- 8.49 being orange and not yellow ha."
No, 7-8.49 is yellow mate, dunno what to tell you but it categorically is.
I think introducing a gold colour would just cause more problems, since yellow/orange/red is already causing some colour confusion my own gradation would probably be something like 1-4 red, 4-6 orange, 6-8 yellow, 8-9 light green, 9+ dark green, but also it's something I only ever think about when a discussion like this emerges once every 1-2 years tbh. This might be an opportunity to revisit it and see if there's any shift in appetites for changing it

I must say one good outcome of a new Nightwish album is that you start liking the old albums more.
Was about to give this album another spin but played Endless Forms Most Beautiful and it isn't that bad. I like it more than when I last listened to it. Don't know if i'll give the new album another chance anytime soon though

Although I preferred it over what had come immediately before it, I was fairly middling towards Endless Forms Most Beautiful when it got released, but unless I have a turnaround on this latest one, the subsequent releases have caused me to start looking on it more favourably; there's not all that many songs I'm particularly fond towards on it, but there are a few solid and memorable tracks, and the closer (while it could do with some of the Dawkins spoken word and other fluff being trimmed down) has some quite epic bits

Seems its only me what thinks Endless Forms Most Beautiful is one of their best after Angels Fall First?

Curious man, if you see the 5-7 colour as red, what do you see the below 5 as? Because that's undeniably red. It makes no sense to jump from orange to green (which is what you are saying). I agree it must be a device issue, but I'm truly curious.

Got round to a second listen; the first two full songs (An Ocean Of Strange Lands and The Antikythera Mechanism) were the most impressive on first listen, and I warmed to them further this time around as well. The Day Of... has some potential, but metal bands should be banned from using child choirs - I can't think the last time a major band actually used one well, and the fact that they drown out Floor in the chorus is unacceptable. From that point on, there's mostly decent songs, but my interest does wane as it goes on. I've nudged my score up to 7 for now; maybe my initial inclination to lean towards a high 6 was a bit expectation-based - there's less impressive symphonc albums than this I gave a 7 to earlier in the year.

At 2nd and 3rd listen it does sound pretty decent. Floor has been allowed to take the centerstage a couple of times which was refreshing. Not sure why the band feels Troy's vocals add any value though. The last bit of Perfume of the Timeless felt ruined.
Highlights for me:
- Ocean of Strange Islands (for a change Troy's contribution was great)
- The Antikythera Mechanism
- Something Whispered Follow Me (thank God Emppu has some guitar parts)
- Floor's vocals in Lanternlight
Low points:
- Sway
- the last minute of Perfume of the Timeless. Ruins an otherwise good song
- The Weave
I like the album more than the previous one but it's still a 6 or 7 out of 10 to me.

I find it quite absurd and hard to believe that some people here actually consider Tarja's solo projects to be better than this album. Even the Marco and Tarja collaboration is so lame and hollow. There is no magic at all for me.
On the other hand, I find the criticism of this album kind of hypocritical, yes, even more hypocritical than the 10 star ratings of us "fan boys". I'm not one of those dudes who put Nightwish above everything, I've even kind of outgrown them, but how innovative, atmospheric, emotional, well-balanced and epic is an album supposed to be to give it more than 5 points? Tuomas is an unbound genius who nevertheless writes catchy music and still possesses a songwriting quality that others in this genre don't even dare to dream of.
I absolutely love this album and somewhat it feels like guilty pleasure because of the tons of critisicm it gets. But it really shouldn‘t be. I love it even more than Time 2.
I didn’t think much about her solo career until I saw her live. Tarja is amazing love, and her songs really come to life. Meanwhile Nightwish plays a gig with the same amount of enthusiasm as I show up to work at 9am.

I mean, it's better than the last album, but that bar was way way too low. This is decent, a 6 is fair I would say.

It is obvious that the band is full of great musicians but I can't get myself to like this album at all. Apart maybe of the first part of "Spider Silk" it is often just sort of bland with some occasional peaks. And the worst part is that it gives the similar vibe as Human Nature which I really loved but here it simply doesn't work.

I am some what dissapointed. Sounds too similar to two latest records and I can't really get a feel for it. Very talented musicians and that Nightwish sound is there but songs don't do much for me I'm afraid

I enjoyed just listening to the instrumentals more than the actual album - not a fan of Troy's vocals

After one listen I wasn't really expecting to return, but considering the song "Perfume of the Timeless" grew on me so much, I gave it a few more tries. Overall I like the album a lot better! "The Day Of" still absolutely sucks, and there are two other pretty meh songs, but the remaining 9 vary from solid to really good. I might download this album and chop out the three stinkers just to see how it flows (I did the same thing with Endless Forms). I like how the album starts and ends the same way, reminds me of what Dream Theater were doing in the 00s.

I don't care what anyone says, this is actually an excellent album. BUT on first listen it was somewhere between a 6 and 7 for me. Unbelievable grower. I understand though that this won't be the case for those hoping for the return of power metal Nightwish. Now, I don't expect to find much agreement on this here, but the masterful incorporation of huge bombastic soundscapes of symphony orchestra has always been one of my favorite features of their style. That's exactly what I missed on Human. :II: Nature. (which I didn't hate but it is the weakest Nightwish album; How's the Heart and Harvest are the low points of their career). And this is the best use of symphony since Dark Passion Play imo.
Yesterwynde 10
An Ocean Of Strange Islands 9
The Antikythera Mechanism 9
The Day Of... 7
Perfume Of The Timeless 8
Sway 9
The Children Of 'Ata 9
Something Whispered Follow Me 8
Spider Silk 10
Hiraeth 9
The Weave 7
Lanternlight 10
On average, it is 8.75

I see no point in having a singer like Floor Jansen to be lost in a muddy mix like this. Instrumentally better than Human Nature, but lacks the captivation that songs like Music, Noise, Shoemaker, Pan, Procession and Tribal had for me. Also, there's no apex. Too much complexity that makes you remember that, sometimes, less is more. At this point, I think it's time to accept that all those expectations set so high when Floor appeared on the 2013's Wacken presentation won't go any further beyond that concert. Tuomas had the upper hand, but, once more, he cut it off himself.

Yesterwynde 10
I totally agree with this rating. I still don't care for the album as a whole after many listens, but Yesterwynde is a gorgeous opener, it might be my favorite mellow song Tuomas has ever written, even beating out everything on The Scrooge McDuck album, which I loved.

So apparently some people lose their shit when they see ratings because the colours are wrong (relax, I mean no one in particular). The world will never cease to amaze and disappoint me.
This is so dumb in my opinion. What is even dumber is the fact that people lose their shit over a 7 (now I know it's also because of its colour ). Even a seven year old can tell that a 7 is much closer to a 10 than to a 1, which makes it a positive rating. But what am I expecting? As someone wise once said "before I went on the internet, I never knew there were so many idiots in the world".

I think it's a good album (my expectations were low), most of the songs are cheesy but very catchy.
Lyrics are an abomination though.
