Kunt Puncher - Take Drugs And Eat A Kebab http://www.myspace.com/kuntpuncher444 I guess there's no pretending that grindcore like this is anything less than prison-rape levels of abuse for your ears, that is, if prison rape is fun. Yes, it's as brutal as grandma doing porno, and as subtle as farting in a bathtub, yet it's so much more. It's a really bizarre form of aggression, with displays of crack-brained time signatures in tracks like "Whore Licks In Bed" and "New Friend Request". But most importantly, let's not forget the obligatory tribute to Hypnotoad in "Boon Is Fucking Ace". All glory to the Hypnotoad. Free download of the EP can be found here by Luke Godin |
Blood Meridian - Elements Of Brutality http://www.myspace.com/bloodmeridianindia Good news everyone! The br00tal slams and bree bree deathcore-like pig squeals have reached India. You might know most of these tech-death key tricks already (good for you), still, Blood Meridian's mixture of br00tality and technical skill stays surprisingly enjoyable and fairly memorable - just check out their Decapitated cover to see what I mean. Instead of going all polished and over-refined, the band opted for the more sloppy production, giving the whole thing some extra panache. Not bad, not bad at all. by Thryce |
Somne - Demo 2011 Samples can be found here Somne. Don't feel emberassed if that name doesn't ring any bells. With only one demo out, limited to a measly 50 copies, no connections to any other band whatsoever (known to me) and a complete lack of 'dieselharp-esque rumours', it'd surprise me if their circle of fame extends beyond their mommies and daddies and close friends. Are you missing out? Not really. Somne offers stereotypical, no-frills Depressive Black metal (doesn't the name of the first song, "Suicide Through Contentment... Exist for Extinction", tell you all you need to know?). A razorsharp and thin layer of distortion teams up with ice-cold and heart-piercing shrieks, together washing over you bringing pitch-black death. It's fun and enjoyable alright, if only this wouldn't have been the gazillionth time we've heard this. Oh, and Burzum did it better. by Lucas |
Ipsilon - Zero Official Website Ugh, I suppose trying something new is always difficult. You've all heard Sonata Arctica, right? Well, picture an Argentinian Sonata Arctica, and you've got Ipsilon. There's really not much more to it. If you like Sonata Arctica, and you don't mind seeing a few of their keyboard melodies...and overall sound being lifted, then you'll surely enjoy this. Otherwise, I'd say this band needs to go back to the drawing board before putting out any more material. by Luke Godin |
Morito Ergo Sum - I Die Therefore I Am http://www.myspace.com/moritoergosumband Now that bands like My Dying Bride have become a past-their-prime icon, it's up to promising up-and-comers like Morito Ergo Sum to elbow their way into the world of "lighter" doom metal. Cuz here's the thing; these Swedes really have the potential to make it big. Not because the atmosphere wallows in despair, or because of the ghostly clean vocals, but because the band scrupulously avoids the "whining fest" pitfall - a big plus in my book. And now we wait for the full-length. by Thryce |
The Blinded - EP 2010 Official Website Ok, ok, good-cop, bad-cop can get kind of tedious, if not overbearingly cheesy at times. This, however, manages to avoid that problem while simultaneously embracing that dual-vocal dynamic. The band manages to gel really nicely on all levels; the vocals are pulled off well on both sides, the rhythms are infectious and heavy, while a certain depth is added by the juicy underlying keys (which do come forth with a few nice leads here and there). Regardless of what your feelings are toward uber-accessible metalcore like this, The Blinded is doing something right, we're without a doubt going to be hearing more about them in the future. by Luke Godin |
Pandemonium - Promo 2010 http://www.myspace.com/pandemonium_pl Lurking in the filthy Polish underground for two decades now, Pandemonium will soon arise to destroy everything you love with their upcoming album Misanthropy. This Promo is only the harbinger of the impending apocalypse. Pandemonium play a death metalish kind of black metal with a hefty dose of insanity and blasphemy. Either way, this thing sounds so vile and rusty it likely gave me tetanus. The whole demo is marked with a seal of darkness, giving the atmosphere a somewhat gloomy and sinister edge. Ready to hear the rest of it? Are you? by Thryce |
