Metal Storm Music is proud to announce that we will be adding to our growing stable of bands the krieg and kvlt stylings of... Black Death Suicide. We took a moment to catch up with the mastermind of the project, Schatten Panzerkrieg. So, Schatten Panzerkrieg how does it feel to be among the first artists signed to the newly formed Metal Storm Music? It feels bittersweet. While Metal Storm Music will help me spread the evil that is Black Death Suicide, I feel conflicted at letting myself become seduced by the power of a potentially mainstream label. How would you define your style of music? Who were your influences? What got you started in making music? My music sounds like nothing anyone has ever heard before. It's completely original, free of influence. My only influence is myself. I see it as a new genre of black metal entirely, something I would call hassen black metal. It's raw, grim, everything you would want in black metal. But it's so much more. Your ears almost would not be able to comprehend the sound because it's so new to the world. You would think to yourself, this is not possible. I got into making music for that reason. The world needs Black Death Suicide, now more than ever. Music is becoming stale. I consider myself the savior of all that is metal. Titled "Black Death Suicide" I think it ironic you refer to yourself as a "Savior!" As for stale music, what you care to expand on that a bit? Was fehlt Ihnen?! There is no irony in what I do. I am serious about my position in the world of metal and you should learn to respect someone of such importance. You would not be listening to the music you do today if not for Black Death Suicide. Music itself is dying. Nowadays we see bands repeat the same formulas. Every day a new Burzum or Gorgoroth is created by simple-minded musicians who want to show off. They think if they plagiarize a sound that already has a growing market, they'll make money without appearing to be sellouts because they are True. I, however, am the only real True black metal artist. I am taking music where it has never gone before. I am experimenting in ways never before attempted. You can think of me as the Elton John of black metal, just more groundbreaking and original. As for being 'seduced by the power' of a potentially mainstream label, was it Lucas' "Come hither" smile that won you over? It is no secret that Lucas and I have been friends for a while now. After all, he was the first person I confided in when the idea struck me to create such a wondrous band. He was skeptical at first, like everyone else who I later discussed the idea with. Now he just looks like some fucking hypocrite. As soon as he heard what my brilliant mind came up with, he had to "snatch me up". Kids his age have no clue about the world around them. Take a look around, I am the world around you. That being said, I've told Lucas several times before that he has an incredible smile. How long have you been creating music? The advance tapes i received of your upcoming release, tentatively titled Suffocating Silence of the ever-Unlight sounds truly horrifying... a natural progression from your demo, Picnic With Satan. I have been making music since 2010. That surprises a lot of people when I tell them that, because I sound like I've been playing for over 30 years. I'm like the janitor in that movie from America. He looks at a piano and knows how to play it. Or I think he says that he actually can't do that, but he looks at other things and does them. I don't remember, American TV is dreadful. My first demo was horrible. I released it independently on tape, limited to 66 copies. I thought of giving them away to friends or maybe mailing them across the world to random locations without a return address, but after the recording I had almost no money to do anything. Eventually I was so angry with myself for creating such mindless, primitive music...I destroyed all 65 copies I had with me at the time. Lucas had made off with one of the tapes a while ago to write a review at this Metal Storm site...come to think of it, that's where you're interviewing me from, no? To my knowledge, he quit his job there and stopped contributing to the site completely, so I made a point to visit him and destroy the last remaining copy of Picnic With Satan so my heart could feel at peace. I force fed the tape to his sister's dog while she was sleeping. Whether or not it survived is irrelevant. What is relevant is the choking noises Lucas heard but chose to ignore. They weren't coming from his dog, verstehst du? You intentionally have distanced yourself from any type of web presence. No mytwitface page... hell, the only reason you are doing this (or so I have bee told) is because you are contractually bound to grant us one email interview prior to the release of each album you put out on Metal Storm Music. Why is this? The internet simply dilutes talent. Even now writing this email I feel somehow weaker, losing power. The field at which I'm playing on is above the need to self-market or to receive the "assistance" of promotion. If anything, fans will eventually create unofficial pages dedicated to my brilliance. The fact I overlooked the fine print in our contract shows how apathetic I am towards labels in the first place. I had better things to do with my time than to read some silly contract. I live in my dead grandmother's old house, and the backyard opens up into an enchanting forest. Instead of giving that dreaded pad of paper the time of day, I went out back to explore and take pictures of myself holding a variety of dead animals' skeletons. That is the kind of thing that makes Black Death Suicide so unique. Even on my leisure time I'm breaking boundaries and doing things never before done. Name me one musician that would even take the time to look at a dead animal, let alone touch it. Any future plans to perform your music live? Never. What I create is far too complicated to perform live. I would need at least two musicians. Where I come from, this is not possible. Original black metal artists like me do not grow on trees. Who is supposed to play drums? Bass? If I'm doing the slinging and singing, at least the music will be enjoyable. But without any help, Black Death Suicide would simply be lost on the audience. Not that it wouldn't be anyway. I laugh to myself quit a lot when I'm in the recording studio. I often think, "Who will even understand this?" I know the answer is "No one," because I'm so far ahead of my time and everybody else's time. But it's a burden that I need to unload, and that's why you have releases like Picnic With Satan. Sometimes it's more emotion than genius. Finding that balance is the key to people like you, people with "BitterCOld" as a nickname. I bet you're some 15-year-old friend of Lucas who doesn't even know what black metal is or where it started. Go listen to some Burzum. Did Varg ever perform live? Fucking amateur. Any final thoughts/wisdom/advice you wish to impart to our readers? To "our readers"? How many do you guys even gave, 20? Okay okay...wisdom most definitely not. Trying to share my mind with the likes of metalheads would be like Einstein trying to explain the theory of relativity to a four-year-old. Advice... Never conform to something that has been done to death. The hassen metal I've been creating now doesn't even contain bits of influence that I later add to or whatever musicians are calling "making music" these days. It's just me and my intelligence in a recording studio with instruments. Thoughts... No matter how unique you are, there is at least one other person in the world who is almost identical to you in every way. Unless you're name is Schatten Panzerkrieg! That's all you'll get out of me BitterCOld. I'm glad I can finally get off my mother's laptop and go do something useful. I've been thinking of burning down a church to send a statement to the Christians. I know it sounds crazy, but what other musician can you name that has ever burned down a church? Someone who has done that would surely be remembered for a long time. Couple that with my music and you're looking at a living legend, kid. |
