Poland has very interesting and unfortunately underrated bands, Sceptic is one of those bands, formed in 1994 with a lot of old school Death Metal influences Sceptic has found their way through a very difficult Metal Scene, Pathetic Being is their second Full Length album, an album with a lot of powerful songs, complex music, and technical execution.
"Pathetic Being" starts with an instrumental and acoustic song, this prelude is a little odd when you only know a couple of songs of this band (Sceptic "known" tracks are very aggressive and violent) a beautiful prelude for the album, then "Ancient Portal" comes blasting your speakers, an average song compared with the rest of the album, but very good indeed. All over the album we can find catchy yet powerful riffs, complex solos, a Bass that sounds incredibly clear and that also has this weird Funk Execution ala "Tower Of Power", the drums combining mellow beats with fast double-bass and every once in a while violent hits.
The best track is "Ancestor Of All Powers" the intro is acoustic and perfect, then when the song really starts (0:18) everything seems so spectacular, catchy riffs, irregular drum beats, Jazzy/Funky Bass-lines, and awesome music, you think this song can't possibly get any better?you are wrong, that part was just the second intro my friend (you see what I mean by textures, and multifaceted music?) so now the actual song starts (0:44) everything collapses in a beautiful way, everything sounds so clear, everything is so complex, everything is so perfect, the vocals sound just overwhelming, and that big, long, structured, and difficult guitar solo will blow your mind for sure, the double-bass is one of the most irregular I've heard, true progression in this song, the final facet (3:57) is just fantastic, and then the Outro (acoustic again), this song is now in my top 10 list of the best Death Metal songs ever.
Sceptic is one of those bands that we all have to check at least once, and this album is great to start that endeavor, a true Masterpiece which combines a lot of Music Genres, please give this album a try I am sure you won't regret ever, Some People say Sceptic last work is awful I really don't know and I don't give a shit, the truth is that "Pathetic Being" is a real Work of Art, this should be your next purchase no doubt.
