Not being one for black metal - the closest I came to understanding the genre was with Woods Of Ypres and Keep Of Kalessin - I decided to give Wolves In The Throne Room's Celestial Lineage a spin as a result of some widespread attention online.
I had my hopes up, and my hopes were met.
This is a very relaxing album, something to listen to in solitude, in your room, with headphones on. After listening to the opening track, you'll find yourself more than intrigued. The chimes and sounds fill your mind, bringing you to a musical wonderland. Then a woman's voice enters the foray, placed perfectly within the song, intriguing you even more. And finally, the entrance of the guitar - that tremolo-picked guitar... and you're gone, taken by the perfect black metal melody.
The album continues in a similar fashion, mid-tempo and simplistic. It's simply breathtaking, backed up by a perfect vocal delivery: harsh, typical black metal shrieks, but not inconceivable or grating. The album gets a major boost from the drums, primarily focused on the utilization of double bass. They pummel the listener, maintaining the tempo seemingly without any effort.
There is a ton of atmosphere to be felt here as well, with a variety of sounds to be heard. The overall feeling keeps you awestruck as every miniscule sound plays its way into your ears. There seems to be something completely new with each listen, something that wasn't there before. It continues to deliver new adventures for the listener to experience.
And that's all a testament to the great production. Far from the bedroom-styled albums you've been listening to over the years, Celestial Lineage is a very professional sounding album. While it's not the best you'll ever hear, it does a fantastic job of highlighting the elements that need highlighting without compromising anything. The most important thing is you can distinctly pick apart each instrument in the mix.
Overall this is a very good album. I would recommend it to anybody who loves black metal, or to anybody who hasn't had much experience in the genre.

Rainy evenings have a vibe of their own: rainy evenings with entrancing atmosphere are astonishing. The wolves have returned to the throne room and the fourth chapter has been carved in stone. The highly anticipated Celestial Lineage has arrived and along with it the specialists of "Vastness And Sorrow" simply because that's what they always preserved; vastness and depth in terms of sound and an omnipresent escalating bitterness and sonorous rapture.
