Moleskin is a French band which is apparently influenced by bands like Metallica or even U2. When you listen to your music, it's obvious actually that the band plays a kind of powerful Stoner Rock which mixes a lot of influences but don't expect anything violent here, it's just Rock n Roll and not a bad one in the end.
"Generator" which is more like an EP than a real album is the first official release of the combo. The band has released one demo in 2004 but this one didn't come in my hand and I've only discovered this band with this new release. The music of Moleskin is a good old Stoner / Hard Rock. The six songs have some good riffs and good catchy melodies, this is maybe not super original but we have good tunes and for a first release this is definitely not a mistake. On the other hand, "Generator" is not original and I had the feeling while I was listening to this release that Moleskin just didn't try to create something new and different. What I mean is that Moleskin, which is all but not a bad band, will have to write songs a bit more personal too if they want to become something famous. Right now our guys play a good music but a really generic one.
The EP also suffers of a really average production. All the instruments are really loud and the mixing is not really correct when you know that nowadays it's not so hard to produce a good recording. Though the really high voice of Julien Babin can be disturbing (but it's a matter of taste) and his English accent his not perfect? But these two "bad points" are just a matter of experience and will be fixed with time because Moleskin seems to be a good band really.
"Generator" is not a bad start but just smells a bit like a demo instead of a real official release. I think that Moleskin is able to produce good music, some songs like "Save My Soul" are good but the guys will have to add some personality to their future compositions if they want to catch a lot of fans. "Generator" is not perfect but promising and with time and musical maturity maybe that Moleskin will be able to surprise us. We'll see!
