Slave Zero is an Irish band which uses to play some kind of modern Thrash Metal mixed with Hardcore and Death. Maybe that we can compare them to bands like Mastodon but definitely the classic Thrash Metal influences are high and the Death voice of the singer will remind you that Slave Zero is finally a band which is influenced by a lot of different music.

"The Pain Remits" is a varied album. The EP only features five songs but they're all different and are all influenced by a lot of different Metal styles. The first song "The Pain Remits" is a mix of Hardcore and Noisecore and since that the voice of Graeme Flynn sounds a bit like the one of Mastodon, it's hard to avoid the comparison. On the other hand, a song like "Faceless" is a lot more Thrash. But all the songs use different influences from Grindcore to Death and even US Power. This EP is not linear and even if the songs can be a bit messy sometime, this is well done and at least it's not common to listen to such music. Slave Zero is an original band, no doubt.

The production of "The Pain Remits" is really good. For an EP this is really professional and promising for the future of the band. In general the productions are not the best point of the bands which come from Ireland but it seems that it's becoming better and "The Pain Remits" is a proof of this amelioration. The artwork, even if it can look a bit simple, is really good, I really think that the band will maybe do something good if they follow this way. Slave Zero has its own sound and their music is original, let's hope that their first album will sound like this EP.

"The Pain Remits" is not a perfect album, this is not the ultimate masterpiece but it's well done and obviously, the band has all what it needs to release a good first album. If you're looking for modern Thrash and wand to discover a promising newcomer, check this EP and maybe that you'll fall in love with the music of Slave Zero.
