Rest In Peace is not the most popular band from France but "Oceans Of Time" is already their third album and when I see the quality of this release, I'm still wondering why people doesn't talk a lot more about them, and above everything else, why they're still not signed by a good label. Let's just hope that "Oceans Of Time" will be the key of a real success, this album has all the weapons to win this war, so really this time it should be good!

The music of Rest In Peace is hyper catchy. The band uses to play a really good Melodic Heavy Metal which has a lot of complex elements which can lead me to the conclusion that Rest In Peace is also a band of Progressive Metal. Well yes and no because it's impossible to compare them to bands like Dream Theater or Pain Of Salvation, the music of Rest In Peace being too direct and "Heavy Metal" in its spirit to be really Progressive but the catchy melodies are not only "commercial", and the guitars soli are truly Prog. The songs are never linear and that's the force of the music of Rest In Peace, their music is catchy like Heavy but enough complex to attract fans of Prog Metal. Plus the voice of Wince Loisy is low in general and cannot be compared to the singers of classic Heavy Metal even if of course, he can sing with some high vocals. The riffs can be thrashy too, well really "Oceans Of Time" is a not an "easy" album and all the different musical elements that we can find in its compositions will probably convince a lot of fans which not particularly come from the same musical (Metal) horizon.

"Oceans Of Time" is a self-released album but its production is really professional and the recording doesn't suffer of any real problems. It's not really surprising on a side because it has been recorded in France by David Herzhaft at the studio Hland but most of all this is the great Mika Jussila who has mastered the album at Finnvox. Nothing to say here and with a great artwork one more time (this is a trend with Rest In Peace) there is nothing wrong really. The musicians of Rest In Peace are really good, the production of their new album is perfect, I'm just wondering what the labels are waiting for to sign this band, all is ready here!

"Oceans Of Time" is a really good album of Metal. I hope now that Rest In Peace will find the success that its deserves and that they will finally become a bigger name of the French Metal scene. Their really good complex Heavy Metal is excellent and really a lot of people should enjoy it. Don't miss this release if you can find it, really this is a really good album and the confirmation that Rest In Peace is not an underground band anymore.

It took me some time to realize I had already heard of the band Rest In Peace before, as their last release dates back to 2003.
It's no surprise to discover that this new album, Oceans Of Time, was recorded by an almost new band, although two of the founding members are still present.

This being said -and although I'm not that familiar with their 3 previous efforts, only a few changes are to be found in the music, remaining heavy, somewhat prog and slightly power metal. Unfortunately - and there I seem not to agree with Jeff's review, the result is far from being as effective as the description can imply. Simply put, most songs have a few interesting moments but those don't last long. It can be due to repetitiveness, with choruses for instance, or to a lack of surprise, of rhythmic changes. See, it's a bit like the music flows endlessly into your ears but without you being able to seize it. It's not catchy.
