"Never Give Up" is the second album of Sliver Dirt, a band from Switzerland. Don't expect anything new or special here, the band is just a new combo which is still living in the 80's-90's and even if their music is not terrible, I didn't find any real interest in this album. The problem doesn't come from the interpretations but from the writings, the guys are good but their music is just a bit uncoloured and I will let you know why...
If you like Hard FM or Hard Rock, you'll not dislike "Never Give Up" but you'll probably have the same feeling than me. All in all we have really monotonous songs here, and obviously the band was not really inspirited when they wrote this album. From one song to another we still have the same kind of Hard Rock, melodic and which some good riffs from time to time but this is just too similar to a lot of other songs and definitely not convincing even if you're a fan of the genre (that's what I am). That's weird really because "Never Give Up" doesn't give some disgusting feelings but this is just boring in the end, not new, not innovative and not original...
On the other hand, if the compositions are average, the musicians are good. The guitars soli are solid and the voice of Silver Steff is really good. Actually I just believe that the band maybe still needs some kind of maturity to find its own personal sound. Maybe that with time, they will find a way to writ original music and this day you can be sure that the album will be a lot better. They just need to be a bit more original and add some power to their music, that way I can tell you that Silver Dirt will be a better band.
As you can guess, I won't tell you to that you're in front of the best album of the year 2009... But don't misunderstand me, "Never Give Up" is not terrible and just too conventional and unoriginal actually. If the guys can surprise us in the future, I'm sure that it will work. After all they're good musicians so it should be good in the future...
