Yeah some swedish melodeath like Gates Of Ishtar really brings black and death together and it helps understand why Dissection are sometimes classified the same way

Gothenburg stuff, real early melodeath, is a lot closer to Dissection, so it kind of makes sense to me now. Bad English has a couple of articles on northern Swedish metal that can point you in that direction.
It took the longest time for me to understand the classification, and I still think they’re clearly more black than death, but it all made sense to me once I started hearing more melodeath from northern Sweden. The opposite of
I always found it weird that Dissection is labeled as melodeath/meloblack. I don't hear any death metal in their sound. It's not entirely black like Norwegian black, but it's typical Swedish black
