This week I'm reviewing Black Annis by Jack The Stripper.

Created by: Boxcar Willy | 22.03.2012

1. Jack The Stripper - Black Annis
Chaotic as fuck grindnoisecore from Australia, mixing noise, grindcore, deathcore and djent all into one crazy and creative album. Oh did I forget to mention the electronic bits? Yeah there's a few of those too. This may be hard to digest for some of you, but I know Joe will like it.
2. Hollow Earth - Killdeer Sessions
These guys seriously sound liek they could open for Black Sabbath. Fuzzed-the-frig-out riffs and rolling song structure. Light one up and fly back to 1978. Classic Heavy metal has never sounded so fun. Oh yeah.
3. And The Giraffe - Creature Collector
I suggest you listen to this right now. A train-wreck genre-wise, combining, ambient, elctronica, indie rock, doom and folk all into one crazy good EP. A sort of downer rock that speaks full of real emotion. The sounds lift you away, only to drop you off in a worse place than you started off. Damn, this is sad.
4. Lions - MTNZ
Resurrecting this list has been on my mind for a few days, so here it is. Lions. Indie Alt Rock based out of the southern US. Lo-fi in some moments, but never lacking in spirit, high-pitched vocals will scare you away at first, but keep listening. It'll be worth it. Great groove and drums make this a really pleasent listen, even with the sometimes splotchy production. Buy NAO!
5. Church Of Wolves - Kentucky Fried Jesus
Stoner like stoner has never seen. I don't know what it is, but this draws me in, Their blend of stoner doom is intoxicating, but not in a "dude, where's my car", or a smoke a bowl and steal a firetruck kind of way. Imagine being tossed in a vat of warm caramel, and slowly, but surely, sinking down passed the top, and suffocating. That's this album. Cool, and unique vocals too.
6. Library Tapes - Sun Peeking Through
Just, for the love of all that is awesome, listen to this. Do it now.
7. Monster Truck - The Brown EP
Every been dragged somewhere you didn't really want to be? Story of my life :/ Anyway, I went to a Slash show yesterday due to my dad not being able to go... There was to be one opening band... "Monster Truck"... Oh dear god, this is going to be hell. Wrong. Monster Truck blew me away, they play a stoner tinged hard-rock with heavy organ use. These guys were better than Slash and his bunch of Misfits. The music is something that you've all heard, but it's not? MASSIVE CURVEBALL. Hard-rock+amazing vocals+Fantastic Bass+cool use of Organ=Monster Truck, and one hell of a fun time. Click on the link above to download The Brown EP for free. Hop to it.
8. Snailking - Samsara
Sludge Dooooooooommmmmmm, rolling, relentless riffs crush you like waves, while the vocals pull you out to sea... This has everything a guy like me loves, fuzzed out guitar tone, wailing sun burnt southern vocals, crash-happy drums groove-laiden basslines. And all avalible for free? Fuck yes.
9. Maranatha - Incarnate
Thats about 3 A's too many amirite? Anyway, when you make an album, and have the cover be just a big inverted cross you're going to get two things. Hate from those Demon Hunter guys, and love from those Varg guys. Actually, no. You won't get love from those Varg guys, This is sludge, not Black. This mix of Hardcore and sludge is heavy, just the way I like it, rolling, pounding riffs tear into you like my razor blade through neighbourhood cats. HAAAAIILLLL SAAAATTTIIIIIAAAANN!!!
10. Wolves Carry My Name - Amongst Ruins And Ashes
Alright... Listen up... Take everything I've recommended you in this list, and throw it away... all of it, delete it off of your iTunes, throw your limited edition vinyls in the trash, and toss your Zune infront of a semi-truck. Why? Because this little Ep destroys all of it. Sludge Doom out of Germany, rolling, riffing, crushing it does all of those musical clichés. Some post-rock and stoner influences are definately noticable, but you'd know that if you listened for yourself. Also, +1 for great artwork.
11. Peacemaker - Demo
This trio (I assume) rolls out of London, mixing 1930's club music, depressing, slow piano tunes, with modern Stoner Metal. An intersting combination, but boy do they pull it off. The album hits hard, then mellows out for a little bit... I would love to see this as a full length, or maybe even a concept album about 30's mobsters or something. One more thing, the fuzz gets me buzzed!
12. Dirtwire - Dirtwire
Every wonder what blues would sound like if it was mixed with electronics? Me neither, I mean, how far apart are these two genres? But hey, Jazz and metal is pretty damn awesome, and they're a world apart, so maybe this will work out. *spoiler alert* It did, this is simply fantastic, and is hard to describe, It's almost like over-dubbed Southern guitar tracks with a slowed down harmonica(?) and some little electronic bumps here and there. Either way it's decent. Just go listen and find out for yourself.
13. Tales Of Murder And Dust - Peyote
Drone-esque post rock with folk elements. If I was ever lost in a desert, this would be my soundtrack, slow repetative, and heart pounding. Melodies come together with sheer simplicity to create some really cool stuff. Give this guy(s?) a check.
14. Dead Hills - Dead Hills
A synth intro brings unto some pretty nice black metal riffs, not too distorted or too clean. The album itself becomes a nice little journey into this guy/guys pain. The album being instrumental is kind of a let down, as some DSBM vocals would kill here, but it also brings out the quality of the instrumentals, which range from depressingly low, to high's that give you a sign of hope. Good stuff, nice to fall asleep to.
15. EYeOvIsIs - Into The EYeOvIsIs
This music struck me as odd, I guess you could call it Industrial Black/death? Sounds like Slipknot had a gay love child with Aborted, but used Deathspell Omega as the Surrogate. Heavy rolling brutal DM drums, Howling BM vocals (sometimes drowned out in the static :( ), with Slipknot esque clean pathages, and a little electronics vibe. Anyway it sounds decent and I'd recomend it to you all, especially Joe. Despite having the vocals drowned out in static and effects, the drums ands riffs come back and save this.
16. Marmot Vs. Mammoth - Basement Demo 2012
This little gem sounds like the Tragically Hip would if their dog got hit by a car, somber and mellow, this demo really makes you feel sad. Heavy basslines and simple drum and guitar come together to create some tasty licks and melodies. Alternative downer rock for the masses.
17. Crescent Moon - The Wall Of Light
Innerself has been relatively quiet about the release of him and fellow bandmate's new EP. This thing is a monster of blackened deathdoom, that will satisfy all ears. Dark, and nasty music, with fairly good production. Think if November's Doom had a bastard child with a Black Metal band. Crescent Moon, playing soulless music, withsoul, since 2009. send these guys some funds through the name your price function on Bandcamp.
18. Six Brew Bantha - S/T LP
RAWRA-RARARAR-ARWWRWARARA-RARWRERERERA-RAR-REE-RARAR-WRAAAAAAAA- GAH-RAHWA-RARA-RAAAAA-HEEEEUUUH!... It's a grindcore thing.
19. Bloodmoon - Orenda
Wtf did I just listen to? Seriously, this is simply one of the wierdest and most intriguing albums I have ever heard. Start off by taking Black Metal, then add some Jazz, Grind, Death, Sludge and a bunch of other things. Mix them all together in the melting pot and you get Orenda. This is something that is 100% original, and something !J.O.O.E! would probably like.
20. P64 - First Take: There is No Reason to be Upset
Yea, this isn't metal. Woopdy fucking ding. P64 is a Philly rapper who is surprisingly good. good, yet simple drum and bass, and even fairly good production, especially for being home recorded. Overall a nice up and coming artist, highly recomended even if you hate Hip-hop or rap.
21. Cerber - Mad At The Soul
This album has been playing non-stop on my ipod. A mix of sludge and hardcore, Cerber come together as a punishing, yet groovy sound. Play this while crusing around in you blacked out SUV, and you'll be meaner than a hyena, or something... anyway good stuff.
22. Spelljammer - Inches From The Sun
My oh my, what we have here is one slamming Stoner album. Chunky riffs, weary drums, and those southern vocals we all crave. Slow, yet powerful You really get the stoner experience here. long songs make this one epic of an album, though only an EP, I feel completely satisfied while listening. Great stuff.
23. Dead In Montana - Dead In Montana
Holy ballfuck Batman, we've got one killer album on our hands, a vicious, groovy and violent Sludge album. Too bad the vocals are somewhat of a bring down, but if you overlook the one negative, you'll see the sea of plusses. One of the major things I enjoyed from this album, were the groovy guitars, they kept me head bangin' all the way through this short effort. I hope to see a full-length from these guys soon.

I'm briefly revisiting some of the stuff on this list, it was a nice idea while it lasted. Still a bit of quality material here after 2 years of evolving tastes from me.
