This is my Top-20 list of the albums I listened to obsessively this year. Apart from #1 the rest are in no particular order. Feel free to comment.

Other albums that I enjoyed a lot, but didn't make the list: Bell Witch - Mirror Reaper, Satyricon - Deep Calleth Upon Deep, The Ominous Circle - Appalling Ascension, Vallenfyre - Fear Those Who Fear Him, Loss (USA) - Horizonless, Iced Earth - Incorruptible, Havok - Conformicide, Full Of Hell - Trumpeting Ecstasy, River Of Souls - The Well Of Urd, Aetherian - The Untamed Wilderness, Below - Upon A Pale Horse, Midnight - Sweet Death And Ecstasy, Immolation - Atonement, Yellow Eyes - Immersion Trench Reverie, Sorcerer - The Crowning Of The Fire King, Converge - The Dusk In Us, Ophis - The Dismal Circle, Inconcessus Lux Lucis - The Crowning Quietus, Temple Of Void - Lords Of Death, Persefone - Aathma, Necrot - Blood Offerings.
20.
1.
Wormwood - Ghostlands - Wounds From A Bleeding Earth
Not enough words to describe this sublime work of art.
20.
2.
Venenum - Trance Of Death
Death metal AOTY, putting to shame every big band of the genre that released a record in 2017.
20.
3.
Sun Of The Sleepless - To The Elements
Nature-worshiping black metal of the highest quality.
20.
4.
Paradise Lost - Medusa
A glorious return to doom/death roots.
20.
5.
Kreator - Gods Of Violence
Melothrash to headbang along to. The most consistently solid thrash act in this millennium.
20.
6.
Kawir - Exilasmos
Black metal combined with ancient Greek tragedy. What more can you ask for?
20.
7.
Moonspell - 1755
Their best since Night Eternal.
20.
8.
Akercocke - Renaissance In Extremis
Well worth the 10-year wait.
20.
9.
Integrity - Howling, For The Nightmare Shall Consume
A 30 year-old band in what is probably its best album ever. Otherwordly solos in this one.
20.
10.
Overkill - The Grinding Wheel
Bobby and co... always the source for good thrash.
20.
11.
Nergal - Νύκτα Γεμάτη Θάματα - Νύκτα Σπαρμένη Μάγια
What the title says: Night Full Of Miracles - Night Sown With Spells. Black, trve and occvlt.
20.
12.
Altar Of Betelgeuze - Among The Ruins
Doom/sludge/stoner with an immense guitar tone. One of the most exciting new bands out there.
20.
13.
Septicflesh - Codex Omega
Proof that Titan was nothing more than a misstep.
20.
14.
Cradle Of Filth - Cryptoriana: The Seductiveness Of Decay
One of this year's biggest surprises for me. Great stuff.
20.
15.
Decapitated - Anticult
Groovy and fun. Haters gonna hate, but who gives a fuck?
20.
16.
Procession - Doom Decimation
Epic doom with riffs of steel.
20.
17.
Dreadrealm - The Essence Of Winter
This one came out of left field and blew my mind. Eagerly awaiting the follow-up Metren.
20.
18.
Mors Principium Est - Embers Of A Dying World
In a genre I generally dislike, this is pure gold.
20.
19.
Power Trip - Nightmare Logic
Thrash the way it should be. Great fun, awesome riffs, short songs. Loving every minute of it.
20.
20.
Human Serpent - Everything Dies [Collaboration]
A 20-minute black metal assault in collaboration with Isolert. Mark the date for the new full-length: 30/01/2018.

Only thing here I know and really disagree with is Akercocke. The vocals on that one were BAD, and ruined the whole album for me.

I know, you're not the only one complaining about these...

I don't understand your extreme love for that Wormwood album. It is decent, but nothing spectacular. Typical run-of-the-mill melodic black with loads of Manegarm hints in it.

Well, I tried to explain the reasons as much as I could in the review. I find it catchy and addictive and haven't stopped listening to it at all. Btw I don't particularly like Manegarm.

I agree with you is a complete masterpiece. Each and every song adds a little more until your head just wants to have an eargasm at the very last.

I also love Kreator's. Mors Principium's one is not amazing as a whole, but has some great great Highlights (read Death is the Beginning). Paradise Lost is worth a mention and I miss in your list the latest Violet Cold's.
I believe Septicflesh is overrated and I finde Cradel of Filth's latest album very boring.
I also haven´t heard some albums from your list like Integrity and Dreadrealm

"Death Is The Beginning" was one of my most played tracks in 2017. I bought the CD just for this song. I have listened to Violet Cold's album only once I think, but I'll give it another try because many people seem to like it, so it's possible I'm missing something there. I think you'll like Dreadrealm.
