Well I've been listening to Anathema for such a long time and I hadnt realised "Hope" in their Eternity album is an original Pink Floyd song which makes sense now that I think about it. It was written on the album that it had been written by Harper and Gilmour. Anyway, always good to know. Its a great song.

Immigrant song- Demons and Wizards was a cover of the Led Zepplin song. It sounded so Demon and Wizardish I never thought it was a cover.

Back when I first got into metal, I heard Anaal Nathrakh cover Mayhem's "Carnage" and "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" and I didn't know they were covers. Also, hearing Demons and Wizards cover The Trooper by Iron Maiden.

For a long time I didn't realize that "hallowed be thy name" by cradle of filth was a maiden cover. I just thought that COF had accidentally written a good song. lol

Megadeth - These Boots - Ive discovered recently that the lyrics are more or less cover of some song "These boots were made for walking" - nancy sinatra
That song was always strange to me, and now i know why!

Lacuna Coil - Enjoy The Silence. Pretty shiity band in my opinion but the cover of Depeche Mode sounded pretty nice.

Wow, Watchtower... Never knew it. And Depeche Mode mentioned, it's a good cover as well. Most of all these covers I found out about by myself, bu I was surprised with Until It Sleeps by Apocalyptica, never have I dreamed that it's Metallica as well, and not one of their creations.

On Oceanborn by Nightwish, I had no idea that 'Walking in the Air' is a cover a song written for an old animation called 'The Snowman'. I think its kinda funny though.

I had a friend who didn't know the cover song "God Of Thunder" covered by Death was originally from KISS.

Heres a weird one for Pagans mind fans. Anyone listened to the last track off Celestial Entrance called 'The Prophecy Of Pleiades', now is this a cover of Dream Theaters 'Learning To Live' or not? I mean its different lyrics, but the tune is identical. It took awhile for me to realise i knew that tune beforehand.

All the Ten Masked Men songs. They play covers from Michael Jackson, BeGees, Justin Timberlake, Shakira, Ricky Martin, Coolio...

And Metalica played a cover from Dire Straits, called Brothers In Arms. Good song.

I've heard Coheed & Cambria cover The Trooper and then a guy that I knew didn't know that that was Iron Maiden's originally.

I also have heard Sonata Arctica cover Metallica's Fade To Black. Pretty sweet.

Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel The Noize...i thought it was their original, but i have discovered the original is by Slade from 1973...but they covered it the best

you all know that Metallica garage inc. are all coversongs!!?

They didn't relesed them, they just played it live on some tours in the past.
I knew they are cover's but Ensiferum's "Lady in Black" (Uriah Heep cover) sounds great. Also Norther's "Youth gone Wild" and "Tornado fo Souls".

The one I didn't knew at first is HammerFall's "Ravenlord" (great song btw) and Judas Priest "Diamonds and Rust"

When I found out, I was kinda disappointed, cause, it was like "Wow, what a great song, too bad they didnt make it" but OK, song reamins the same although the its better than the original.

Also with the aforementioned "All Along The Watchtower", well, but if you take Hendrix' version, he made that song all on himself except the lyrics and those 3 chords of rhytm that Dylan played.... Great song.

i agree on diamonds and rust, i'd also add:

-Judas Priest: Better by you, better than me; the green manalishi(both also fantastic songs)
-Hammerfall: Back to Back(never expected this one)
-Nightwish: Walking in the Air(the Shadows version is just as fantastic though)
