With possibly the cheesiest album cover ever, this album was the most experimental of Megadeth's career. Unfortunately, it was before the recording of this album that Gar Samuleson and Chris Poland were thrown from the band, a very tragic loss. But this album is a great recovery from the loss of such great players. With new recruits Jeff Young on Guitar and Chuck Behler on skins, this new line up was ready to rip some fuckin' heads off. So far things were good, but so what? It doesn't matter as long as they keep kicking ass.

Stuck in between the genre-defining classics of Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? and Rust In Peace lies the sleeping giant that is So Far, So Good... So What?. The 2004 re-release of this album finally allows the music to shine through and makes a solid case for the album as more than the awkward middle child that it seemingly has gone down as in the discography of Megadeth.

"Set The World Afire", "In My Darkest Hour" and "Hook In Mouth" do some ass kicking here, but the rest of songs could be better. Maybe I'm under-appreciating this album because it's released after two strong albums, well what I can say, over half of the album seems close to filler material.

This album may not be as bad as the first two albums, this album is still bad. Even with this album, they damn us to H, they plan world destruction and the deaths of millions of innocent people, they criticize the righteous PMRC, Mary Jane is a violent song that promotes the devil's leaves, In my Darkest Hour is a disturbing song about K-ing yourself. These songs and all the other songs on this album and several other Megadeth songs are evil and satanic. Avoid them or you will go insane.

I didnt like it so much, never did in old days either so much, seems they were angry and young to pull it off, todays they wont get such a fame whit it

This is an oddity in Megadeth's carrier, most of these songs have been forgotten by fans, but imo they really kick ass, much better than peace sells

In My Darkest Hour, Set the World Afire and Hook In Mouth are the best songs here. I don't know what Dave was thinking when he raped his earlier albums with those embarrassing remasters and newly recorded parts back in the early 2000's. I remember getting this and Peace sells and being so disappointed with the mix I threw them somewhere and never bothered wasting my time with them again, I got the originals and loved them instead.

The first two tracks are a really badass opening! However, the album disappoints once "Anarchy" comes on (didn't they learn their lesson from making cover songs since Peace Sells? ) Darkest Hour is a great song though

Yeah, that is basically it. The opening instrumental and Set the World Afire are great, also In My Darkest Hour, of course. But the rest is rather mediocre, even Hook in Mouth is not really great imo. The SP cover is atrocious, totally interrupts the album's flow.

Been revisiting this recently. It's nowhere near the Masterpieces of Peace Sells and Rust in Peace, but it is quite entertaining.
The wild songwriting is amusing, the guitar-work is fun, and Dave's voice is still young and good.
Into the Lungs of Hell, Set the World Afire, In My Darkest Hour, and Hook in Mouth are still the obvious stand out tracks
Overall, a low 8 for me

Quote:

F is for fighting, R is for red
Ancestors' blood in battles they've shed
E, we elect them, E, we eject them
In the land of the free and the home of the brave
D, for your dying, O, your overture
M is for money and you know what that cures
This spells out freedom, it means nothing to me

Shit - Dave was a damn good lyricist back in the day

Not bad at all but feels like a middle album after the two first ones. Third time in a row where they have a misplaced cover song.
