No sooner had most writers praised last years Natural Born Chaos that Soilwork return with their fifth album Figure Number Five. To say the Swedish six piece band have been busy is an understatement! The big noticeable difference this time around is the absence of producer Devin Townsend. Soilwork themselves have opted to produce the albums eleven tracks, and with stunning results.

Great proof of why you shouldn't let keyboard players write metal.


In fact it's great proof why the best purpose for metal keyboard players is prey to be hunted from the back of a 4WD with a Remington 870 12 gauge.

"Run little man, run!"

Over the years this has become my favourite Soilwork album, much more than the overrated and poorly composed earlier albums. I really don't recall keyboards being the dominant aspect of this at all, rather the infectious grooves and Speed's vocals dominate, which are undeniably strong on all accounts.

Strange that you give Natural Born Chaos such a comparatively high score. It's basically the same album - an In Flames rip-off - only not quite as groove oriented or well produced. Both are great records though but disliking one and not the other is a bit like liking Wages of Sin, Damage Done or Jester Race and disliking Anthems of Rebellion, Character or Whoracle.
