After their extreme debut album, The Codex Necro, Anaal Nathrakh followed a more melodic path with Domine Non Es Dignus. Many people believe that with their third album (Eschaton) the band made no progress at all; "it's just a safe album" they say and no one can blame them. They changed almost nothing. The production is the same, the musical direction of the band is also the same. There's only one thing they've changed: the Songwriting. Forget how much you liked Domine Non Es Dignus because Eschaton is even better!

Let me just say that this is one of the only albums in existence that fills me with pants-shitting terror.

Then I gotta have this one!
I have never heard an album described this way!
Added it to my wish list!

Just purchased this on eBay and I'm looking forward to hearing what it has to offer. Will be my first taste of the band.

Whilst not much is different between 'Eschaton' and AN's first two albums, the use of industrial passages and melodic guitar work is much more intact. Clean vocals are not as apparent as on 'Domine...', but when they do appear, the song does in fact seem much more melancholic that it would if it was instrumental. That said, blastbeats and razor sharp riffs do dominate this album, as does the insanely harsh vocals.

"Do Not Speak" from Domine Non Es Dignus might be my favorite track by AN but the album is a bit inconsistent at times (if that album was 5 mins shorter with less fat it would have been sweet).
Eschaton takes a lot of the aggression from the debut as it sounds way harsher compared to the sophomore album. Great album for sure.
