For their fourth album, the two founding members Derek Sherinian (Keyboards) and Virgil Donati (Drums) have invited four great guests: Brett Garsed (Guitars), Allan Holdsworth (Guitars), Jimmy Johnson (Bass) and Rufus Philpot (Bass). This was one of my favourite albums back in the teens, it was so different than anything I had ever heard before. Little did I know Quantum was also my very first encounter with the guitar wizardry of Allan Holdsworth, a fusion genius I actually came to know and respect just lately this year. Some could say it's all more or less wankery and barely metal, but I think it has stood the test of time perfectly.
