Between the likes of Resin Tomb, Knoll and Vitriol, the standout metal albums of the early weeks of 2024 have heavily featured releases with strong ‘I hate the world and everything in it’ energy. Cave Sermon’s new release starts off in similar fashion, but ultimately reveals itself to have more up its sleeve.

There are too many songs here that are just absolute perfection. "Beyond Recognition", "The Paint Of An Invader" and "Divine Laughter" will go down as some of the best songs of the year on what is an early contender for AOTY.

May be, the year for Sludge is going great, btw.

About the record? I think it encompasses everything what you expected from sludge - atmosphere that envisage from raw, dirty, and loud sludge.

Good album.

This album is very interesting, although quite a demanding listen. It goes in various directions, and does a good job at it.

It would come high in my year list if it wasn't for those AWFUL ambient noises in track 5 and 6. I can understand experimentation, but here I had to stop the album toward the end that last track, and I normally never ever stop an album before the end. Those noises were just too unpleasant. Still a good album but they loose 1 or 2 points in my book because of that. It makes it pretty unlikely that I would ever play it again.
