The good surprise of 2002, after a delay of two years the new Arch Enemy has finally arrived in Europe. This new album introduces an important change with the departure of Johan Liiva, the first singer, and the arrival of Angela Gossow to replace him. The first time that I heard them, I immediately asked myself if that was really a girl who was singing and also what she could look like? And yes, to my surprise it was a girl really, and a pretty one... With this change, one could wonder whether or not Arch Enemy would lose intensity, for it is true that girls with a death metal voice are not legion in metal and therefore quite unknown... But on the contrary, Angela knew how to bring all her strength in her song and the new songs of Arch Enemy don't suffer from the comparison with the olds tracks.

That album does have some really great songs on it! But it has a couple of songs that aren't that great, so I like Wages more because I think every song on that one is awesome.

The first half of 'Wages of Sin' is absolutely brilliant-heavy riffage, beautifully handled solos, and enough aggression to make even the mellowest person want to rip someone's head off. However, from track 8 onwards, it seems as if the band slightly lose their creativity and originality, and as 'behind the smile' and disappointingly bland closer 'lament of a mortal soul' prove, the level of quality set by those first 7 songs couldn't be matched. Nonetheless, this serves as a great modern metal album, if only because the guitar work is top notch. I wouldn't say it's their best, but i'd certainly say it's their most successful.

'Shadows And Dust' is easily one of the best and most memorable tracks on this record if you ask me.

I like that song, but i don't think it's as effective as the first half of the album to be honest.

They should play this album in its entirety and releasing it on DVD, just an idea.

Never liked Doomsday Machine, It as some good titles such as Nemesis and My Apocalypse but I can't get into it and I don't know why. Wages of Sin is among my favourites AE albums though.

This the thing we need from an original band. Perfect drumming, great riffs and solos, good production.Unlike the previous record with Johan, Angela's Vocal parts are awesome and completely dominent. It seems they finally found their unique style in this record.Burning Angel is a masterpiece to think about .Also a lot of more ideas in solos.

This is my third favorite from them, definitely less good than the previous one but Angela kills it on the vocals, only problem is that some songs are quite weak such as "behind the smile" which I absolutely despise. Otherwise, some pretty great tracks can be found here like "Ravenous" which is a timeless arch enemy classic, "web of lies" and "dead bury their dead"
