I love 'Mourning the Death of Aasa'. It reminds me of 'The Great Gig In The Sky'. It's much less intense but, dare I say, more powerful.

There's a fair amount of black metal in this, the tags should reflect that instead of being just Progressive Metal. Hugely forward thinking album this I reckon.

I'm pretty sure it used to have black metal tags a while back.

One of my very first bm albums ever. I clearly remember checking this out after finding it from Spirit-of-metal. Tracks 1, 4 and the closer are the true highlights. Such a rare and peerless record. Defo needs the bm tag.

This one isn't working for me... bad production, wavering songwriting, performances are okay-ish but it's when the singing comes, then I cringe inside. The shrieks are very underproduced and tonally annoying, while the clean vocals come and go in volume... I guess if the songs would be great I wouldn't mind the production but they left a very bland mix in my ears.

In no way was In the Woods... influenced by either of these two bands.

so the Irish band Primordial, who released their debut album in 1995 influenced the Norwegian band In the Woods, who were releasing their debut album the same year. And across the ocean, Nevermore were releasing their debut album also in 1995. But it was Nevermore and Primordial that influenced In the Woods...
How does that make sense?

Oh you just said it. As for In The Woods influenced by the latter two. that's a suggestion you've made up for yourself and have to answer for me. I'm not the one whose questioning timeline semantics!

In the Woods... released Heart of the Ages in March 1995. Primordial released their debut album in September 1995.
Nevermore released their debut in January 1995.
Excluding the fact that I don't hear Nevermore in In the Woods... music, I don't see how two bands, working on debut albums, so far apart (Norway and US) could have influenced each other back then, it makes no sense to me.

That's because it's not my point as I was referring to sound itself. Direct influence wil always be subjective guessing until proven. If I were to go that direction it still doesn't work completely in your favor Primordial had Dark Romanticism in 1993 and Nevermore with Utopia in 1992. There's also a fair amount of avantgarde to where the latter half of Norway's 90's outputs probably thank this record and the other two after, presumably Ved Buens Ende. Imo Omnio was inspired by Tiamat's Wildhoney.

sorry about that, it was not like I was trying to insolently break the rules.

No worries. I just mentioned it because multiquotes make it difficult for everyone to follow the discussion
