My favourite IQ album these days; the band plays with passion and enthusiasm, one could see how much fun they had creating the album (or at least i feel it).

The first album and they already nailed it. One thing I've always enjoyed about The Lush Attic and many other early neo-prog albums is the cheap early 80's punkish tone they had, but mixed with more progressive stuff. Marillion's Script for a Jester's Tear and Twelfth Night's Fact and Fiction are very similar to this one, both have that exact same weird tone. IQ released remixed edition of this album sometime in the 2000's and surprisingly it's even better than the original one.

In 1982, IQ released a casette called Seven Stories into Eight. The songs will be re-released later in 1998, first CD the songs reworked, second CD the original tape. Must listen for any IQ fan.

Nice post btw.

Solid debut. It doesn't grab me as I would hope though. There's something about neo-prog that when it isn't striking it can come out as a bit of bland even though it's competent and has quality, don't know how I would describe it better. Maybe it will grow on me.

Oh right. This isn't their debut, totally missed that. Need to listen to Seven Stories into Eight as well.

Seven Stories Into Eight is more like a demo. So Tales... is their debut album.
You'll have to listen to Seven Stories into 98 which is a double album of the 1982 tape put to CD and a re-working of the songs by the band in 1998. Must listen if you like the band.
