A Forest Of Stars is not your average run-of-the-mill Black metal band. Coming from the UK, they have that typical British attitude with them of class, high-tea, bowler hats and walking-canes. Ok, that's probably stereotyping and generalizing too much, but if I'd have to give it a place in history I'd place it in the nineteenth century, in a scene similar to that described in for example "The Picture Of Dorian Gray", by Oscar Wilde. Take that and morph it into Black metal and you'll probably get A Forest Of Stars.

This was sitting in my library since I became acquainted with the band through A Shadowplay For Yesterdays nearly a year ago - finally decided to give it a spin. I'm really impressed by the haunting air they've crafted by combining raw black metal tones with unconventional psychedelic twists.

Unfortunately, tracks 1, 2, and the first half of 4 were far more engaging than the rest, which proved slightly drawn or stretched. Interested to see how the next release sounds.

A bit album where avant-garde scares you away but BM makes you listen it, good one, if it would be pure BM it would be failure

The opener on this album is still so haunting. I always wonder if I still think it's one of my favourite songs, and then I listen to it and am reminded how great it is. The rest of the album is also really great, but that opener is something else. "Female" is probably second best.

The opener

It's one for the ages. I make a point of listening to it whenever I'm writing and it makes its way onto every black metal and black metal-adjacent playlist I make.

Prophecy Productions posted such updates:

On May 20 in 2011, we re-issued the first two studio albums by English Victorian gentlemen´s club A Forest Of Stars - "The Corpse of Rebirth" and "Opportunistic Thieves of Spring", both extraordinary works of psychedelic, experimental black metal.
