Ok, Fungoid Stream are weird. Bizarre. Odd. Then again, I guess the fact that they are a funeral doom band, yet adopted the name Fungoid Stream and opted to eschew headstones, cemeteries, or other dark images and instead put a starfish on the cover of their latest should have been a clue. A big clue.

Oceanus is what would happen if you gobbled fistfuls of mushrooms (the psychedelic kind, not the shiitake kind), smoked some hippie lettuce, and tried to compose a funeral doom album from the couch while simultaneously watching The Discovery Channel's "Planet Earth" in 1080 Hi-Def.

I got Apophis' Heliopolis for $0.01... it came in perfect condition (I had to pay shipping so I guess it was $3 ... but whatever). Always curious about why albums are put up for so little

Well, when someone hands out a 9 to an album, along with saying "such a fantastic album", it's safe to assume he would recommend it, isn't it?

You would think that would be apparent wouldn't you?
I know you enjoyed FS's most recent album, Erik, and if you haven't heard this one yet I highly suggest you check it out. Much better than the already great Prehuman Shapes

Why are you quoting a two year old message of someone who hasn't been active in ages?

Indeed.

Listening to Oceanus right now and it's sounding very interesting indeed. Damn original and refreshing I'd say. Glad I discovered these guys. As of now it's impossible for me to say which album I like more. I'll come back later for that.

Who cares how old the message is? Oaken is a pretty well-known MS user so I didn't know he hasn't been online for such a long time.

And I replied to his message because I found it bleedingly obvious that Alex would recommend this album. People who say that stupid questions don't exist are liers.

Sometimes I miss the ways of old MS where a seminal doom band's album thread would get completely derailed by semantic cringelords trying to outwit each other.

Other times I realize I have to delete 18 comments from 7 years ago and comment about the album being a unique offering within the field of funeral doom.

OBC nailed it in the review's opening: funeral doom gone Planet Earth, with a Lovecraft-induced sense of atmosphere of course.

I miss it too. It used to be a fun contest.
