I think splits aren't that unique...especially in folk or black metal but of course it is not so common for relatively well known bands...

Splits are very common in doom/extreme doom/black/grindcore also a bit in thrash and death I don't know about folk though. But like ellrohir said they are not so commong for relatively well-known bands.
