1997 was the year that a band redefined and I must dare to say, invented a whole new genre of Metal, Children Of Bodom was the band, and "Something Wild" took the Metal community by storm, the music was so undecipherable, so innovative so? strange. Children Of Bodom took Melodic Death Metal, Power Metal, classical music and created a strange brew that critics everywhere tried to define, call it Extreme Metal, Power/Death Metal even Bodom Metal! Neat for a debut, but they have done a lot better stuff. I actually remember liking their original demo releases more than this.

Definitely deserves better rating, because this album is ALMOST as good as Hatebreeder and Follow The Reaper. In certain ways. But you can't compare this too much to them, because this album has more of gothic motives and more black metal rawness. But there are tons of ideas and riffs and I consider this album as Reign In Blood of melodic death metal.
