Ever wonder what a lyricized version of a mad man rambling would sound like with a funky bass line to match him? Well, after an eleven year wait Primus has returned to answer that question for the seventh time with Green Naugahyde. As per usual Primus has produced a baker's dozen of bass driven songs, with lyrics that even Frank Zappa would scratch his head at. Which for many will be very familiar territory for a Primus album, but to call it unoriginal would be taking that too far because this band has no stylistic competitor to compare them to.

Listening to it now, and it is a lot better than I expected. Especially loving Last Salmon Man. It would have been a great follow-up to Sailing The Seas Of Cheese

no idea if it leaked but it wouldn't surprise me. Even though I am listening to an official watermarked and numbered promo.

I've just finished listening to it for the first time, and my first impression is that this is one of Primus' very best albums! Right now, there is a couple of songs I'd regard as filler, but overall, it's a great album, with several songs that stuck in my head right away. xD The lurching assault of "Hennepin Crawler" is a perfect opener, whilst the ferocious "Extinction Burst" is a perfect finale. (not counting the Salmon Men (reprise) outro! ) "Last Salmon Man" is already a classic Primus anthem in my mind, and "Lee Van Cleef" is a prime cut of their classic sounding energtic funk. "Jilly's On Smack" is maybe the darkest song on the album, and it's obtuse, menacing vibe is very captivating, if unsettling stuff. xD

I think this will end up being one my top albums of the year, and while it's not quite the perfect comeback after such a long layoff, most of the album is Primus at their bewildering best!

Lee van Cleef is true genuine filler especially placed after classic tobe Jilly's On Smack which has the Southbound Pachyderm darknes to it.

Lee van Cleef is true genuine filler especially placed after classic tobe Jilly's On Smack which has the Southbound Pachyderm darknes to it.

Compared to a few other songs on the album, "Lee Van Cleef" is much more straightforward, and doesn't display the sheer genius Primus are capable of. But, it is immediate, irrepressibly catchy, and I found it quite pleasing that they can still produce a more simplistic (or as simplistic as you're ever likely to get with Les' crazy bass theatrics! ), and to the point funk workout.

"Jilly's On Smack" was definitely one of the standouts on my first listen. It's probably the most tense, spine tingling moment on the album. xD

Lee Van Cleef's lyrics are also the most mind numbingly stupid on the album.
Compare them to those of a musically just as simple Moron TV and I reast my case.
moron tv isn't a filler although musically it coukd have been whereas lee van cleef is due to its moronic lyrics.

Well, to be fair... Primus have a good few songs in their back catalogue that feature stupid lyrics (some of which also happen to be great songs), so I think to call it a bad song purely on it's lyrical content is a bit unfair. And they aren't THAT bad!

"Moron TV" isn't one of the album's best songs, at least IMO. But it's not a bad song either.
