Boy oh boy, did Manowar ever shoot themselves in the foot with this one. They had some of the best songs they had written in 20 years and they ruined what could have amounted to a decent comeback album with appalling production.

This is a perfect album. But lots of talentless false metal fan(alternative, grunge, emo, burzum type black,nu etc.) are on the
net. I don't understand these unlucky monitorheads-why do you write about Metal music? ˙(Because i think they hate the Metal).
I think every trendy music worshipper waste their precious time.Maybe i am a Manowar fanboy also.Do you have problem with this?

I have just read Metalhammer lastest issue rated this album a 9

well it has a hammer on its cover, so maybe thats the reason...

anyway - 6/10 from me, which means it is really, really bad

If a 6 from you is really really bad, what is a 2 then?

I am serious with this, 6 on a scale from 1-10 generally means it's kind of average but has enough good qualities to be a more enjoyable experience than unenjoayable.

You must understand, that i am known (or should be) as a Manowar lover...so giving six for such favorite band means i really dislike it

i obviously know the scale is 1-10...

Wow after all my years of listening to them and defending their awesomeness time and time again (all you old guard hopefully remember) that I finally have to say they have created something that reminds me of a sucking chest wound. They should just tour all the time so they can play their awesome older stuff and stop producing shit.

I feel bad for the poor sap who gets to review this one. Have a tall glass of Vodka with this one.

Why are people commenting on the production? This is essentially a pre-release demo exclusive to Metal Hammer, hence HAMMER EDITION ; which will obviously have bad production. The official retail album will be released on October 19, only then can you judge this album fully. Can Metal Storm please put this in the Manowar demo section?

I'm pretty sure the HAMMER EDITION is not a demo. I will say this, though: if I turn out to be wrong, I'll happily buy the corrected version of the album, because I liked a few of the tracks and it is only because of the horrendous bass production that I don't tend to relisten to it.

good music always shines no matter if it is a demo or not. And here it is crap music. A great production won't make the music any better.

I bought this album with the expectation that Manowar had finally given up their style and was trying to move in a more progressive direction. I was shocked and appalled to learn that Manowar's latest album, in fact, heavily resembles their previous releases - to such an extent that it is stylistically indistinguishable! When is Manowar going to change and grow as a band?

That actually would not have been a bad idea for the band, I could have possibly tried to getting into their work more perhaps. However I'm not sure if Manowar is really the kind of band that would change their sound like that. They seem like the kind of band that likes to "stick true" to what they do best I think.

Yeah... I don't think this review is relevant anymore, now that the retail edition is out and sounds nothing like the hammer edition... Like Joey said in an interview earlier this month, the hammer edition was like a taste/preview of the songs as they we're still in the mixing process to make fans wait less longer to at least hear what they had coming for us. Now that the retail edition is out we should all forget about the hammer edition, at least the people who didn't like it. I see the retail edition not only as a mastered version but also a Lord of steel with more Manowar in it, for example, they've added more high screams from Eric, probably because the fans asked so on the internet, more Karl Logan signature solos and a lot more epicness with more orchestral strings during the choruses and so on. Sure the haters are gonna hate and say that the lyrics aren't very revolutionary and simple but hey it's pure Manowar if you don't understand Manowar it's your thing but I understand them and think it's fucking awesome! so please review the review so it fits with the new version of the lord of steel! Hail and Kill! =T=

Ugh, I'm starting to like this album. It's so lazy, the songs probably took about half an our each to write, the production is weak and the bass sounds like loud farts... But it's all so mildly enjoyable in it's simplicity.

Loud farts... (hey, don't ofend the basses)

LOL what the hell is it with that bass sound

seriously, what is with the shitty sound, the guitar starts out okay in the first track and then loses all of its power. the vocals are extremely crappily mixed in too. Manowar fanboys will gladly eat this up though, unfortunately.

edit: on my youtube page I listened to the retail version of the title track (which still sucks balls) one of the related videos is called "hilarious fails compilation" how true is that

Im not the biggest fan of Manowar, but i like a couple of their songs (especially Dark Avenger and Defender, pretty much because Orson Welles narrated those songs and Christopher Lee for the re-recording of the former track). This album feels really uncomfortable on my ears, the bass is way too high in the mix and almost sounds like 8-Bit or whatever (I know they're an 80s metal band, but still). I might one day get a few of their very first albums, but sensing from what they are doing now, I wont be interested in getting their later stuff, including this one.

This album adds nothing new or unexpected in Manowar's songwriting; basicly rehashing old songs and lyrics. The songs aren't bad. I have listened to all of them a few times now and find there's just a couple of skipworthy ones. On the other hand, most of the songs don't quite kill. Annihilation is the one song that does, however. Production sure is too polished. I'm not going to bash the bass sound in particular, it's the production in whole that's the issue IMO.

It's Manowar in 2012. It's heavy metal. I've come to see that Manowar was always almost like this, even in their "glory days".

Highlights: Annihilation, The Lord of Steel
(obvious) Fillers: Expendable
