This wont be out until 2013. They've only got one song written at this point I believe and plan to record it either in December or early next year. Just what I've heard.

Has everything that Roads to Judah had, but its longer (which is a major plus) and it just seems more mature in general. The songs are constructed better (imo) and are a little less repetitive. Great stuff.

Music wise it's not the most original piece of album and the sound has a lot in common with the whole shoegaze/bm and doesn't do a lot to seperate itself from the confines of the genre,. but emotionaly ...oh god! It ebbs and flows, building up effortlessly, alternating between bm and post rock/shoegaze structures and at times becomes almost overwhelming.
First impression is love!

I disagree, Deafheaven's atmosphere and sound is very different from Alcest and the like. Deafheaven relies on a harsher, more angry and spiteful sound. Their music is also much more well rounded and full.
Anyway, THIS IS SO GOOD OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

Harsher sound indeed... But I definitely did not feel any anger and spite at all in the atmosphere.

Perhaps those were not the best words, maybe melancholic? Or Nostalgic?
Nostalgic ventures into Alcest territory though, and this sounds a lot more different than that. I don't know, it's hard to explain, which kinda sucks because I have review dibs of this

Hmmmm, nah, I don't get those vibes either, don't really know how to explain it either but I get more of a positive feeling than negative.
Not like it matters anyway... The feelings you get from an album are just yours so it's not like you have to find the best words to describe the album to others, you just use the best words for your own interpretation.
Good luck with the review. I should work on mine as well. >___<

I wouldn't pick Alcest as the point of comparison, An Autumn For My Crippled Children and Lantlos might be more similar than Alcest. And I agree with Rod, no anger there whatsoever, if not the exact opposite ... and that's what makes their music stand out, the fact that they can manifest beauty using the tools of BM (Extreme vocals, Blast beats, tremolo riffs).

A tad underwhelming. They couldn't avoid the sophomore slump for me...it's nothing less than very good, but not nearly as great as their first album.
I'll have to give it a few more listens before I fully decide.

Not as quite good as the first one, but it's still an excellent album. Not as intense as Judah was.
The sound is a lot more expansive and is incredibly varied for this genre. No glaring holes of boredom to ruin the whole experience.
Whereas Judah manifested its greatness in a huge flash, and glistened with raw intense energy, this one is a lot more tempered.
Wouldn't call it a sophomore slump at all.

I think this is miles ahead of the debut, which I thought was already really good. There are so many more layers and different tones, it's fantastic. This is far less black metal, and way more post-rock, but damn do they do it well.
Christ, this may just be my favourite album.
