Djent. Yeah, I said it. I usually call it Groovy Rhythmo Chuggingham, but you could also understand it simply as Instrumental Progressive Metal.

Guy plays for Jeff Loomis, Intervals, Skyharbor, AND writes his own stuff. Wowza.

Not sure how I feel about programmed guitars, but I suppose it's just like programmed drums. When people start programming everything, that's when i'll be mad.

I can't even wait to hear programmed vocals.

All hail Microsoft Sam and Samantha!

I dig the guy but it is rather standard djent. Idk if you liked The Algorithm at all but that is entirely programmed (guitars, drums, everything), he just has a live drummer to make the live experience more interesting and attractive. Great stuff though if you haven't listened to him at all.

But they're completely fake.

that's like complementing a picture of the Mona Lisa. Sure it's still the Mona Lisa, but it's just not the real thing.

Yeah I know a little what you're talking about but he doesn't copy anything he just programmed the great original stuffs but he is just a drummer, there is a lot of album with drum programming it's just a different instruments so because the guitar parts are very complex and he is just a drummer I can close my eyes on this little thing !

So then any band who uses programmed drums are all fake too, and deserve no credit or credibility because the drums are all programmed?

Have to agree with Mehdi though, for a guy who is strictly a drummer to write polyrhythmic guitar parts deserves props. The fact that they're programmed is a minor technicality since lots of big name professional musicians use programs to write out the guitar parts they think of in their heads while they're on tour or just messing around at home (away from the studio).

It really not as hard as you think, with guitar pro and fake distortion, you can write a diddy in less than a day.

I'm sure that Anup Sastry could say the same thing about your programmed drumming for your projects. But does that mean you deserve any less credit for your hard work and effort in writing and programming those drums tracks for your music?

Basically it boils down to, if you're going to damn/discredit one artist because he programmed some portion of his album's music then you should also be damning/discrediting ALL other artists out there who program some portion of their music (which would include yourself ). It's hardly fair to judge this guy for programming all his guitar and bass tracks but not the multitude of other bands out there who program their drum (and other assorted) tracks.

You could also look at it from another perspective, he had the courage to write and record all those guitar and bass tracks, then release them to the world and own up to the fact that they were all programmed. He could have easily kept that to info to himself and let everyone think he wrote and recorded those tracks on actual instruments. But he chose to admit it, knowing that he would probably get criticized/scrutinized by lots of people for "using a program to write and record guitar and bass tracks".

People congratulate you all the time for your courage to write and record music, at such a young age, that is less than professional or perfect and releasing it to the world. I'm rather surprised that you, of all people, would be so damning of him having a similar courage.

If he hadn't included the info about those tracks being programmed then would you have even been able to tell that those songs weren't recorded with "real" instruments?

"Some portion"

When there is no vocals nor, other instruments, that's 2/3's of the music being programmed. Throw that in with lack luster, overpolished drums, and we've got a real bleh album.

There's nothing wrong with programming instruments, but comparing them to actual musicians is totally Ludacris. I don't go around saying that it takes the same amount of skill to program drums as it does to actual play them. Yes, my drums are programmed, saying that they sound good is fine, but it's not a real person playing it, and it takes no skill what-so-ever to hit enter and add a bass drum beat. So yes they can sound good programmed, but it's still takes no where near the amount of skill. All it takes is a slight amount of creativity to write the fill.

Quote:

But does that mean you deserve any less credit for your hard work and effort in writing and programming those drums tracks for your music?

Actually, yes it does. I don't deserve anywhere near the praise of a real drummer playing blast beats at 180bpm. That's a hard thing to master. I may take time and effort in writing and mastering drum tracks, but it's still nowhere near the same thing.

Look at it this way.

A Programmed drum track: A few days, maybe 8 hours of work.

That same drum track, but with an actual drummer: 8 years of practicing and skill building.

TL;DR, Programmed instruments are 1000x easier to write, therefore they do not deserve as much praise.

Oh yeah good on the guy for creating the music he wanted. There's nothing bad I can say about that.

Also, I'm not rating this low because of the programmed instruments, I'm rating it low because its a boring, monotonous wall of wankery.

Don't see the disappointment of this album. While not super SUPER special, it still holds up for being a great album from a guy who only works for great bands. Enjoyed this; possibly on my top 50 of 2013!

But they're completely fake.

False, he actually recorded each note individually using a real guitar and then patched the notes together into songs. So in that sense they are not completely fake.

While you can loop hole your way around it it, it doesn't make this album any less uninspired and hollow.
