Laughable Slayer ripoff. As expected, though, with a name like that It has to be shitty.

Unimaginative, boring, and repetitive...but not a bad sound. It's like an Overkill album played at half tempo with the all fun vacuumed out.

Slayer ripoff? Are you stoned, drunk or stupid?

^I don't recall him saying that originally, otherwise I'd have given him shit about that comment immediately...
Metallica ripoff? Plausible. But Slayer ripoff?! See what Daniell said.

Well, considering it already sounds better than later day Slayer or Metallica...
He may not be original but he's already doing it better now than the other guys are.

No. He spent 15 years in Metallica. He has every right to sound like Metallica, so it can't be a ripoff at all.

Well, it was still Metallica's sound though, not Jason Newsted's sound. So one could argue that Jason helped make that sound, but it's still technically Metallica the band's sound and not Jason's sound, he was just involved in creating that sound for Metallica. I still agree that it's not a ripoff, but people screaming "Metallica ripoff" would make much more sense than people screaming "Slayer ripoff".

Both would be equally stupid. Jason Newsted released an unpretentious, carefree, catchy and inspiring album. It should be listened to without prejudice, for what it is.

Sounds incredibly derivative and bland from the 3 songs I heard. Even if it isn't technically a rip-off, it still sounds like every lowest common denominator METUL local not-quite-thrash but not-quite-heavy metal band I've ever heard. Can't see what anyone would find inspiring about a guy in his mid-life crisis naming bands after himself and calling albums and EPs pretentious names like "Metal" and "Heavy Metal Music"

Joe, if I were to point one single person who is the least likely to appreciate this album, that person would be you This album has exactly zero things that you look for.

Well, no, "Slayer ripoff" is vastly more stupid because Newsted is at least a former Metallica member, the album does share some similarities with Metallica, and Metallica and Slayer have never sounded even remotely similar. And I never said it was a good idea to scream "Metallica ripoff", just that it would make more sense than to scream "Slayer ripoff".
I went into this album not expecting much (like many, I'm sure), but I was quite impressed and enjoyed it quite a bit. And I agree with you entirely, it's a good album.

Decent album.
As for the dude who spoke ill of Newsted himself... my sister played quads in her high school band many years ago. The band director during her time was on a cross-country flight and was sat next to a longhair. Conversation ensued. Longhair was Jason Newsted. When the conversation of "what do you do for a living?" came up, after mentioning his gig as band director at a HS, Jason whipped out his check book and basically funded them for the next year.
Class. Fucking. Act.

Written by deadone on 22.12.2013 at 04:55 It actually sounds like a really crap high school band trying to sound like a cross between Motorhead and modern Metallica.
This would make for a really good review actually.

Nocturnus and soldierhead are the KILLER songs of this album definetely.:banger2: futureality and king of the underdogs are awesome too.
all in all , a good album from a good metallica bassist, i'm gonna give it 7 out of 10 .but because of nocturnus i think 8 out of 10 is more realistic .;D:banger:

It's okay, better than I expected. I remember I was surprised in a good way when my friend played some songs back when it was released. I revisited it recently and it's not bad, just has a lot of filler. A few songs are good mainly the first few and my favorite "Nocturnus".
