Faith No More are back "From The Dead" with Sol Invictus, their first new release in 18 years. Sooooo is SI "Epic"? Maybe Album Of The Year? Or are you concerned "Everything's Ruined"? When it comes to Faith No More, well, for many of us, "We Care A Lot."

Not bad, but a little more mellow than earlier albums.

The songs themselves are decent, but at times it feels as though the production is stealing the depth and energy. This is also probably the least adventurous I have ever heard from Patton. But it IS Patton, which means it is still above the output of most vocalists out there. I've just always come to expect him to top himself. "Cone of Shame" gets up there though, and "Motherfucker" is highly entertaining. The album overall picks up steam around the halfway mark and maintains it through the groovy bass of "Matador." Mixed bag, but likely the best alternative album you will hear in 2015. *Enjoyability=7.9 Musicianship=8 Innovation=8.5 Overall=8.3*

Listened to it a couple of times now and it is by far their weakest. It is just all pedestrian stuff with nothing going on at all.

I've listened to this quite a bit, desperately hoping that it might get better somehow, but alas I must say that this album is totally underwhelming. Even boring at times.

Not good... But then again all the othere albums I heard form FNM were not good as well.
Strangely enough, Mike Patton aces on pretty much all his other projects. I guess that's why I keep checking FNM's works after all

Some of my ideas about the songs:

Sol invictus is a great intro,
Superhero isn't that great that's true but it's enjoyable, has one good moment though,
Sunny side up is a really fun and catchy song that i actually like,
Separation Anxiety is one of the best tied with,
Cone of Shame, which sounded awful the first time i heard it live but sounds awesome on the disc,
Rise of the fall, kind of a meh song, not that bad but not that good,
Black Friday. I listen to this song every time i play the album because it's fun and it has a great moment near the end of the tune,
Motherfucker is better than most but certainly not the best,
Matador is great, the first half at least,
From the dead. Can't say anything about this, never listened to it fully.

I must say, this has grown on me quite a bit since I've first listened to it last month (albeit very slowly). This is a mellower FNM, although a few tracks bring the energy. A decent album, but not wholly consistent. Favorite tracks: Superhero, Separation Anxiety, Cone of Shame, Motherfucker, Matador.

On first listens, probably an improvement on Album of the Year, but not up with the 3 prior to that one. Still, considering the time out between the two albums, the fact they can still produce something respectable is pleasing enough. I really like Superhero, and Separation Anxiety is excellent too

This is the worst thing Patton has ever churned out of actual relevance. Can't believe that they actually put something as laughable as track 8 on a record.

Gave this is a listen first back when it came out and thought it was pretty good. Listening to it again now I actually I think it's quite brilliant. Nothing whatsoever feels wasted here: nuanced, oblique, massively varied, and both meticulously planned but also off-the-cuff sounding. First listen I thought it was a bit uneven, that it was maybe split a bit too evenly between the rock-out moments and the more convoluted uses of instruments and texture, but now I think it flows amazingly well and every moment sounds really satisfying. It's not often I hear a band that knows what they want to do and achieve it so well. Serious skill and compositional foresight right here, especially with the singles they released which sound so much better in the context of the album.

China was a neat
Yeah this is not very catchy or easy on the ears - a very nuanced album, sometimes the rhythm follows the vocals and sometimes the vocals follow the rhythm - very weirdly driven songwriting, pretty interesting nevertheless and a whole lot of fun after a few listens. Oh and the opener, Separation Anxiety and Motherfucker are already classics.
