What already was good has only been becoming better. Looking forward to this one, to be sure. I'm hoping for an expansion of instrumental range and songwriting in his distinctive style.

I thought this was more enjoyable than Roads To The North. The solos are more tasteful on this one, they seemed pretty out of place on the last one.

Agreed. Everything about the structure, sound, and composition seems much more mature. It's a stunning result.

Has the style of this guy changed a lot in recent years? I remember reading Troy's review of an album a few years ago and it sounded like a really depressive, angusihed album, but both this and Roads To The North are pretty uplifting and tonally light, particularly for black metal

No, it didn't change a lot. A little, but not a lot.
Remind that depressive is a relative conc3pt when it comes to music though...
